Overview

The Campro CNV-550 is the entry point of the CNV series: a 3,000 kg (6,613 lb) vertical machining center with 550 mm (21.6 in) of X travel, 430 mm (16.9 in) of Y and 480 mm (18.8 in) of Z. The table is 650 × 430 mm (25.5 in x 16.9 in) and holds 300 kg (661 lb).

Small does not mean stripped down here. The spindle motor is the same 7.5 / 11 kW (15 HP) fitted across the whole CNV series, up to the CNV-1300, and the spindle options are the same too: 8,000 rpm as standard, with 10,000, 12,000 and 15,000 rpm available. Rapids are 30 m/min on all three axes. Campro states that every axis uses precision linear guide ways with a direct drive servo motor and coupling, and that the Z axis works without a counter-balance.

Where the size shows is in tooling and workholding. The magazine holds 20 tools with an arm type changer, or 16 with the optional carrousel. T-slots are 14 mm wide, four of them, where the CNV-850 uses 18 mm slots. A tool beside empty pockets can be Ø130 mm (Ø5.1 in).

The machine occupies 2,240 × 2,670 mm (88 in x 105 in), deeper than it is wide, and stands 2,520 mm (99 in) high. It needs 15 kVA. Campro adds that the control panel swivels 0~75 degrees to suit the operator. The inch figures printed for the spindle nose distance on Campro's page do not agree with the metric ones, so only the metric range is given here: 100~580 mm.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 7.5 / 11 kW (15 HP) spindle motor, the same as on the largest CNV model
  • Spindle options of 10,000, 12,000 and 15,000 rpm above the standard 8,000 rpm
  • 30 m/min rapids in X, Y and Z on linear guide ways
  • Light and compact: 3,000 kg (6,613 lb) on 2,240 × 2,670 mm (88 in x 105 in)
  • Runs from a 15 kVA supply

Limitations

  • Table load of 300 kg (661 lb) on a 650 × 430 mm (25.5 in x 16.9 in) table
  • 20 tools as standard and 16 with the carrousel option, fewer than the 24 of the CNV-850
  • X travel of 550 mm (21.6 in) leaves room for one vise and little else
  • Chip to chip time is 7 sec

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels of the CNV-550?

X axis travel is 550 mm (21.6 in), Y is 430 mm (16.9 in) and Z is 480 mm (18.8 in). The distance from spindle nose to table surface is 100~580 mm and from spindle center to column 485 mm (19 in). The table measures 650 × 430 mm (25.5 in x 16.9 in).

02 What tool changer does the CNV-550 have?

The standard changer is arm type with 20 tools; a carrousel with 16 tools is the listed option. Tool shank is BT-40. Tools may be Ø80 mm (Ø3.1 in), or Ø130 mm (Ø5.1 in) with adjacent pockets empty, 250 mm (9.8 in) long and 7 kg (15 lb). Tool to tool time is 2.5 sec.

03 How does the CNV-550 differ from the CNV-750?

Only in length. The CNV-750 has 750 mm (29.5 in) of X travel and an 850 × 430 mm (33.4 in x 16.9 in) table, and weighs 3,300 kg (7,245 lb). Y and Z travels, the 300 kg (661 lb) table load, the spindle, the tool changer and the floor plan are the same as on the CNV-550.

04 Is the CNV-550 a linear guide or box way machine?

Linear guide. Campro states that all axes are equipped with precision linear guide ways and a direct drive servo motor with coupling, without counter-balance on the Z axis. The casting was designed with Finite Element Analysis and 3D software, according to the maker.
