Overview

A 40-taper spindle over a 1,800 × 800 mm (70.8 in x 31.4 in) table is an unusual pairing, and it defines the Campro CPV-1600B-BT40. This box-way vertical machining center travels 1,600 mm (62.9 in) in X, 830 mm (32.6 in) in Y and 700 mm (27.5 in) in Z, and its table takes 2,000 kg (4,409 lb).

Who needs that? Shops whose parts are big but whose cuts are not: large aluminium plates, fixture plates, weldments that need holes, pockets and faces at many positions. For that work a larger taper only slows things down. Here the spindle runs to 8,000 rpm, and the arm type changer swaps BT-40 tools in 2.5 sec, 6 sec chip to chip. The CPV-1600B-BT50 on the same frame stops at 6,000 rpm.

The limits are just as clear. The spindle motor is 9 / 11 kW (15 HP), so metal removal in steel is modest for a machine of 14,500 kg (31,967 lb). Rapids are 15 m/min in X and Y and 12 m/min in Z, which adds up over a 1,600 mm stroke. Tools cannot exceed 7 kg (15 lb).

Campro states that the CPV-1600B table base uses 4 boxway type guideways, and that the series has box ways on all 3 axes with scraped Turcite-B surfaces. T-slots are 22 mm wide, six of them at 125 mm pitch. Allow 4,300 × 3,245 mm (169 in x 127 in) of floor, 3,200 mm (125 in) of height and 25 kVA.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,800 × 800 mm (70.8 in x 31.4 in) table with a 2,000 kg (4,409 lb) load
  • 8,000 rpm spindle, where the CPV-1600B-BT50 is limited to 6,000 rpm
  • 6 sec chip to chip tool changes with a 24-tool arm type changer
  • 830 mm (32.6 in) of Y travel, a little more than the table depth
  • Table base on 4 boxway type guideways, as Campro states

Limitations

  • Only 9 / 11 kW (15 HP) of spindle motor on a 14,500 kg (31,967 lb) machine
  • Z rapid of 12 m/min, with 15 m/min on X and Y
  • BT-40 tools are capped at 7 kg (15 lb), Ø80 mm (Ø3.1 in) and 250 mm (9.8 in)
  • The table for this version shows no gear head option, unlike the CPV-1600B-BT50

Best For

Large plates and fixture bases with many drilled and tapped features Big, light parts where spindle speed matters more than torque Long workpieces up to 1,600 mm (62.9 in) in one setup Shops with BT-40 tooling that need a 2,000 kg (4,409 lb) table

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Why would a machine as large as the CPV-1600B-BT40 use a 40-taper spindle?

Because not every large part needs heavy cuts. The 7/24 taper No.40 spindle reaches 8,000 rpm and changes tools in 6 sec chip to chip, which suits drilling, tapping and light milling across a 1,800 × 800 mm (70.8 in x 31.4 in) table. For heavy roughing Campro offers the CPV-1600B-BT50.

02 What are the travels and clearances of the CPV-1600B-BT40?

X is 1,600 mm (62.9 in), Y is 830 mm (32.6 in) and Z is 700 mm (27.5 in). The spindle nose is 130~830 mm (5.1 in ~ 32.6 in) above the table surface and the spindle center is 850 mm (33.4 in) from the column surface.

03 How much spindle power does the CPV-1600B-BT40 have?

The spindle motor is listed at 9 / 11 kW (15 HP) and the maximum speed at 8,000 rpm. Campro describes a belt type spindle with class P4 angular contact ball bearings and a spindle oil cooler as standard. The 50-taper CPV-1600B-BT50 is listed at 11 / 15 kW (20 HP).

04 What are the weight and services of the CPV-1600B-BT40?

Machine weight is 14,500 kg (31,967 lb). The floor plan is 4,300 × 3,245 mm (169 in x 127 in) with a maximum height of 3,200 mm (125 in). Power supply is 25 kVA and the air source is 6~8 kg/cm² (85 ~ 113 PSI).
