Overview

The AXA VSC 3 - XTS50 pairs the wide VSC 3 envelope with an SK 50 spindle. Buyers get 700 mm (27.6 in) of Y as standard, extendable to 900 mm, 1,000 mm or 1,100 mm, and a spindle whose standard drive no. 131 delivers 286 Nm and 45 kW at 40% DC. X travel is built to order between 1,760 mm and 9,000 mm.

Where does it sit? Below it, the VSC 2 - XTS50 has the same spindle but stops at 600 mm of Y. Above it, the VSC 50 - XTS brings 1,000 mm of Y, a 20,000 N feed force and drives up to 820 Nm. The VSC 3 - XTS50 is the choice when the part is wide but the cut does not call for the heaviest machine.

Z travel is 850 mm, and AXA's table shows 950 mm and 1,200 mm in brackets beside it. On this model those two figures are printed without the footnote that marks them as optional features on the SK 40 version, so confirm with AXA how they are offered. The distance from table to spindle nose is 180 mm to 1,030 mm.

Drive no. 133 is the one optional spindle, with 355 Nm and 56 kW. The XTS magazine holds 26 tools and extends to 180, with tools up to 110 mm in diameter, and changes take approx. 7 s. The table has five 18 mm T-slots, six as an option, and carries 1,200 kg/m².

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • SK 50 spindle with 286 Nm and 45 kW at 40% DC on a machine with 700 mm to 1,100 mm of Y travel
  • Optional drive no. 133 raises output to 355 Nm and 56 kW
  • XTS magazine from 26 up to 180 pockets for tools up to 110 mm in diameter
  • Table rated at 1,200 kg/m² with 18 mm T-slots
  • Rapids of 40/40/30 m/min in X/Y/Z

Limitations

  • Feed force of 9,000 N, well short of the 20,000 N of the VSC 50 - XTS
  • Speed range of 4,000 rpm, with 9,000 rpm as the optional maximum
  • Y travels above 700 mm are optional features
  • Approx. 7 s tool change, slower than the approx. 5 s of the VSC 3 - XTS
06

Best For

Wide steel weldments and plates machined with SK 50 tooling Parts that need up to 1,100 mm of Y travel with moderate cutting forces Long components on beds of up to 9,000 mm Boring and face milling with cutters up to 180 mm in diameter

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What spindle does the VSC 3 - XTS50 have?

An SK 50 spindle to DIN ISO 7388-1 AD / DIN ISO 7388-3 AD. Drive no. 131 is standard with 4,000 rpm, optionally up to 9,000 rpm, 286 Nm and 45 kW at 40% DC. Drive no. 133 is optional with 355 Nm and 56 kW. BT 50, HSK A100 and C8 holders are optional.

02 How wide can the work envelope be?

Y travel is 700 mm (27.6 in) as standard and 900 mm (35.4 in), 1,000 mm (39.4 in) or 1,100 mm (43.3 in) as options. The clamping surface is as wide as the Y travel and as long as the X travel plus 400 mm, with five T-slots or six as an option.

03 Should I choose the VSC 3 - XTS50 or the VSC 50 - XTS?

The VSC 50 - XTS is the heavier machine: 1,000 mm of Y and Z, 20,000 N feed force, a 540 Nm standard drive and a 1,500 kg/m² table, but rapids of 30/30/25 m/min. The VSC 3 - XTS50 is faster at 40/40/30 m/min and starts with 286 Nm, so it suits lighter cuts on wide parts.

04 How long does a tool change take and how many tools fit?

AXA states a tool change time of approx. 7 s. The magazine holds 26 tools as standard and is optionally expandable up to 180. Maximum tool length is 400 mm, and maximum diameter is 110 mm, or 180 mm with free adjacent pockets.
