AXA DBZ 2 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the AXA DBZ 2 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from AXA or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

For pendulum work on parts that outgrow the base model, AXA builds the DBZ 2: a double place travelling column machining centre with two stations of 900 mm (35.4 in) X travel each. Y is 600 mm (23.6 in) and Z is 700 mm (27.6 in). Each station has its own 1,000 x 600 mm clamping surface with four T-slots.

The arithmetic of a two-station machine is simple. Loading time stops being spindle idle time, because the column moves to the second station as soon as the first is finished. How much that is worth depends on the ratio of cycle time to loading time, and it is highest on short cycles.

Compared with the DBZ, every axis is longer: the DBZ has 2 x 750 mm of X, 550 mm of Y and 600 mm of Z. The extra 100 mm of Z shows in the clearance under the spindle, which reaches 880 mm above the table. Everything else is shared. The SK 40 spindle (drive no. 110) gives 143 Nm and 30 kW at 40% DC at 6,000 rpm, with 12,000 rpm optional, and the 22-pocket magazine can be expanded to 30.

AXA describes the frame as a rigid ground construction with cast iron cross slides, travelling column and headstock. Guideways are hardened steel slideways with Turcite coatings, or roller guides as an alternative, and all linear axes are driven by ball screws. Accuracy is stated as ± 0.015 mm positioning per 1,000 mm and ± 0.005 mm repeating.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Two stations with 900 mm (35.4 in) of X travel and a 1,000 x 600 mm table each
  • 700 mm of Z travel and up to 880 mm between table and spindle nose
  • Pendulum operation: the spindle keeps cutting while the other station is loaded
  • Optional drive no. 111 with 191 Nm and 40 kW at 40% DC for heavier cuts
  • Repeating accuracy of ± 0.005 mm, with ± 0.0075 mm positioning accuracy as an option

Limitations

  • A workpiece longer than 900 mm does not fit one station according to the listed X travel
  • Table load is 800 kg/m², the same rating as the smaller DBZ
  • The magazine is shared by both stations and holds 30 tools at most
  • SK 40, BT 40 or HSK A63 only; no SK 50 spindle is listed
06

Best For

Short-cycle series parts machined in pendulum operation Parts up to a 1,000 x 600 mm clamping surface per station First and second operation of one part run on alternate stations Production cells where one operator loads while the machine cuts

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What size are the two work areas of the DBZ 2?

Each has 900 mm (35.4 in) of X travel, written by AXA as 2 x 900 mm, with 600 mm (23.6 in) of Y and 700 mm (27.6 in) of Z shared by both. The clamping surface is 2 x (1,000 x 600 mm), each table with four T-slots at 160 mm spacing.

02 Does the DBZ 2 have two spindles?

No. AXA's page describes a double place machining centre, and the data sheet lists one main spindle drive. The travelling column moves between the two stations. The standard drive no. 110 has 6,000 rpm, 143 Nm and 30 kW at 40% DC.

03 What is the advantage over the single-station VCC 2?

The station size is similar: the VCC 2 has 1,200 x 600 x 700 mm travels on one 1,350 x 600 mm table. The DBZ 2 splits its X axis into two stations so that one can be loaded during machining of the other. Its standard positioning accuracy is ± 0.015 mm, where the VCC 2 is listed with ± 0.02 mm.

04 How fast are the axes of the DBZ 2?

Maximum rapid traverse is 25/25/20 m/min (984/984/787 ipm) in X/Y/Z and the maximum feed force is 9,000 N (2,023 lbf). AXA uses ball screws in all linear axes and places drives and guideways outside the working area.
