Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Fryer MC-45B that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Fryer MC-45B is a square-envelope box way vertical: 45 in (1,143 mm) of X with 25 in (635 mm) each of Y and Z. Where the MC-40B is the tall member of the MC-B series, this one is the deep one. Its 25 in of Y covers the full depth of a 24 x 51 in (610 x 1,295 mm) table, and the spindle centre is 26 in (660 mm) out from the column.
Depth is what plate work needs. A 24 in (610 mm) plate can be faced, drilled and pocketed across its whole width in one clamping, and two vises can sit front and back instead of side by side. The table has 5 T-slots and is rated 3,500 lb (1,588 kg) evenly distributed. The trade against the MC-40B is in Z: 25 in (635 mm) of travel and 29 to 4 in (737 - 102 mm) from spindle nose to table.
At 14,500 lb (6,577 kg) the machine is noticeably heavier than the two smaller models, and its floor area grows to 127 x 104 in (3,226 x 2,642 mm). The door opens 45 in (1,143 mm), the same figure as the X travel, so the whole stroke is reachable from the front.
Spindle and tooling are the series rows. That means CAT 40 at 60 - 8,500 rpm with 30 hp (22.4 kW) peak, a 24 station arm type changer and a 3 seconds tool change. Positioning accuracy is given as +/- 0.0002 in (0.0051 mm). The coolant tank holds 90 gal (341 L) and the pump delivers 9 gpm (34 L/min).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 25 in (635 mm) of Y travel, enough to cover the full 24 in (610 mm) depth of the table
- 24 x 51 in (610 x 1,295 mm) table rated 3,500 lb (1,588 kg)
- Door opening of 45 in (1,143 mm) equals the X travel
- 14,500 lb (6,577 kg) machine weight on box ways
- 90 gal (341 L) coolant tank
Limitations
- Z travel is 25 in (635 mm), short of the MC-40B's 28 in (711 mm)
- Floor area of 127 x 104 in (3,226 x 2,642 mm) is far larger than the MC-40B's 111 x 86 in (2,819 x 2,184 mm)
- Base spindle speed is 8,500 rpm, which limits small-tool work in aluminium unless a faster spindle is ordered
- The 40 hp (29.8 kW) motor is an upgrade that Fryer's options sheet ties to the Siemens control and to 80 Amp service

Frequently Asked Questions
01
X, Y and Z travels are 45 x 25 x 25 in (1,143 x 635 x 635 mm). The table is 24 x 51 in (610 x 1,295 mm), and the distance from spindle nose to table ranges from 29 in to 4 in (737 - 102 mm). The spindle centre is 26 in (660 mm) from the column.
02
Choose by Y and Z. The MC-45B has 25 in (635 mm) of Y and a 24 in (610 mm) deep table; the MC-40B has 20 in (508 mm) of Y but 28 in (711 mm) of Z. Deep plates and front-to-back fixtures favour the MC-45B, tall parts and rotary tables favour the MC-40B.
03
The machine weighs 14,500 lb (6,577 kg). Operating dimensions are 127 x 104 x 110 in (3,226 x 2,642 x 2,794 mm) and shipping dimensions are 127 x 87 x 87 in (3,226 x 2,210 x 2,210 mm); Fryer notes that the shipping size requires some disassembly.
04
The standard changer is a 24 station arm type. Tools can be up to 3.2 in (81 mm) in diameter with every pocket full or 5.5 in (140 mm) with the adjacent pockets empty, up to 11.8 in (300 mm) long and up to 15.4 lb. A 40 or 60 tool changer is an option.
