Overview

The AWEA BM-1200II is the mid-size member of the BM-II box-way vertical machining centers, with 1,200 mm (47.2 in) of X travel, 650 mm (25.6 in) of Y and 610 mm (24.0 in) of Z. Its 1,300 x 650 mm (51.2 x 25.6 in) table takes 1,200 kg (2,646 lb), and the machine weighs 7,500 kg (16,534 lb).

Why this size? A 1,200 mm stroke covers two full-size vises with room between them, or a mold base that would crowd a one-metre machine, without the floor space of the BM-1400II and BM-1500II. Table load climbs in step with length across the range, and here it reaches a level where a fourth-axis rotary table with a steel workpiece is realistic.

AWEA builds the table with a double ribbed design so it does not deform under long-term heavy loading, and supports the Y-axis saddle according to the Bessel points concept to limit deflection. These are structural details that matter more on a box-way machine, where the saddle carries the whole table mass on sliding surfaces.

The listed spindle is belt-driven, 8,000 rpm, 7.5 / 11 kW (10.1 / 14.8 hp), in BT40 or optional BT50. Rapids are 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) in X and Y and 24 m/min (945 ipm) in Z. Three screw type chip augers are fitted on this size, including Y-axis augers as standard, and a chain type chip conveyor is optional. Coolant capacity is 380 liter. Supply needs are 25 kVA and 6 kg/cm² of air.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,200 kg (2,646 lb) table load on a 1,300 x 650 mm (51.2 x 25.6 in) table
  • Double ribbed table and Bessel-point saddle support to limit deflection under load
  • Three screw type chip augers with Y-axis augers standard
  • Box ways on all axes with hand-scraped contact surfaces
  • BT40 standard, BT50 optional

Limitations

  • 8,000 rpm belt-drive spindle is slow for small-diameter tooling
  • 7.5 / 11 kW (10.1 / 14.8 hp) motor; the BM-1400 MAX steps up to 11 / 15 kW (14.8 / 20.1 hp) with a gear spindle
  • Z travel of 610 mm (24.0 in) is the same as on the smallest BM-II model
  • Chain type chip conveyor is an option, not standard
06

Best For

Two-vise setups and mold bases around 1,200 mm long Fourth-axis work with steel parts within 1,200 kg (2,646 lb) Roughing and semi-finishing of die steel Cast iron machining where chip augers clear heavy swarf

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What size parts fit the AWEA BM-1200II?

The work envelope is 1,200 mm (47.2 in) in X, 650 mm (25.6 in) in Y and 610 mm (24.0 in) in Z, over a 1,300 x 650 mm (51.2 x 25.6 in) table rated for 1,200 kg (2,646 lb). The spindle nose can be set 125 ~ 735 mm (4.9 ~ 28.9 in) above the table.

02 How are chips removed on the BM-1200II?

AWEA equips the BM-II series with 1, 3 or 5 screw type chip augers according to machine size, and its chart places the BM-1200II in the three-auger group. Models from the BM-850II to the BM-1400II have Y-axis chip augers as standard. A chain type chip conveyor and a high pressure chips flush coolant system are optional.

03 What is the spindle power of the BM-1200II?

The spindle motor is rated 7.5 / 11 kW (10.1 / 14.8 hp), continuous and short-time, driving a belt-drive spindle with a top speed of 8,000 rpm. Taper is BT40, or BT50 as an option.

04 How does the BM-1200II compare with the BM-1400II?

The BM-1400II extends X travel to 1,400 mm (55.1 in), has a 1,500 x 650 mm (59.1 x 25.6 in) table and carries 1,400 kg (3,086 lb). The BM-1400II weighs 8,100 kg (17,857 lb) against 7,500 kg (16,534 lb) for the BM-1200II. Y, Z, spindle and feed figures are identical.
