Overview

The Z axis of the Vision Wide MS-2620 is balanced by twin hydraulic cylinders with a pressured nitrogen accumulator. Vision Wide says the arrangement gives smooth and accurate feeding, that the Z-axis can reach 0.5G acceleration, and that it keeps a holding position at power failure.

Each part of that statement has a use. A counterbalanced head asks the Z motor only to move it, not to carry it, so small corrections in the cut are quick and even. An acceleration of 0.5G is brisk for a head carrying a geared spindle, and it shortens every retract and plunge in a pocketing or drilling cycle. Holding position when the power goes out protects the part and the tool: the head does not drop onto the work.

The machine those features sit on has 2,600 mm (102.4 in) of X travel, 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of Y and a 2,500x1,800 mm (98.4x70.9 in) table for 9,000 kg (19,841 lb). Z travel is 800 mm, and Z rapid is 15 m/min.

The spindle is the 6,000rpm 2-step gear type with 18.5/22 kW (24.8/29.5 hp). X and Y rapid at 24 m/min. A tool magazine is optional, as on every MS.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Z-axis acceleration of 0.5G, per the maker
  • Twin hydraulic cylinders with nitrogen accumulator balance the head
  • Z axis holds position at power failure
  • 2,500x1,800 mm (98.4x70.9 in) table for 9,000 kg (19,841 lb)

Limitations

  • Z rapid of 15 m/min, slower than the 24 m/min of X and Y
  • Standard Z travel is 800 mm
  • Tool magazine is an option

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How is the Z axis balanced on the Vision Wide MS-2620?

By twin hydraulic cylinders plus a pressured nitrogen accumulator. Vision Wide states that the Z-axis can reach 0.5G acceleration and keep a holding position at power failure.

02 What are the MS-2620 travels and table?

X 2,600 mm (102.4 in), Y 2,000 mm (78.7 in), Z 800 mm as standard. The table is 2,500x1,800 mm (98.4x70.9 in) with a 9,000 kg (19,841 lb) load.

03 What are the feeds on the MS-2620?

Rapid traverse is 24 m/min in X and Y and 15 m/min in Z. Cutting feed is 1-10,000 mm/min. The Z axis is hydraulically counterbalanced.

04 Which machining center matches the MS-2620?

The SF-2620 has the same specification table: 2,600 mm (102.4 in) by 2,000 mm (78.7 in) travels and a 9,000 kg (19,841 lb) table. The MS-2620 is the milling machine version, with the magazine as an option.
