Overview

The AWEA BM-1500II is the widest of the BM-II box-way vertical machining centers. It has 1,500 mm (59.1 in) of X travel and, unlike the four smaller models, 740 mm (29.1 in) of Y. Z is 610 mm (24.0 in). The spindle center stands 780 mm (30.7 in) from the column, further out than the 710 mm (28.0 in) of the BM-1400II.

One detail in AWEA's table deserves a second look before fixtures are designed. The table is listed at 1,600 x 700 mm (63.0 x 27.6 in), so Y travel is longer than the table is deep. The spindle can reach past both table edges, which helps when a part overhangs or when a probe or tool setter sits beside the table. Table load is 1,450 kg (3,197 lb).

Compared with the BM-1400II, the gain is modest in load and clear in width, and it costs little in mass: 8,700 kg (19,180 lb). Buyers who need still more Y have to move to the BM-1600 MAX with 800 mm (31.5 in), a 15,000 kg (33,069 lb) machine with a gear spindle.

Spindle and feeds follow the BM-II pattern: belt-drive, 8,000 rpm, 7.5 / 11 kW (10.1 / 14.8 hp), BT40 with BT50 optional, and rapids of 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) in X and Y. The coolant tank grows to 500 liter. Three screw type chip augers are fitted according to AWEA's chart; the Y-axis augers listed as standard for the smaller models are not listed for this one.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 740 mm (29.1 in) of Y travel, the widest of the BM-II models
  • Y travel exceeds the 700 mm table depth, so the spindle reaches past both edges
  • 1,450 kg (3,197 lb) table load on a 1,600 x 700 mm (63.0 x 27.6 in) table
  • 500 liter coolant tank, the largest of the BM-II models
  • Still a 25 kVA machine at 8,700 kg (19,180 lb)

Limitations

  • Y-axis chip augers are listed as standard only up to the BM-1400II
  • Belt-drive 8,000 rpm spindle with 7.5 / 11 kW (10.1 / 14.8 hp), as on the smallest BM-II
  • Z travel stays at 610 mm (24.0 in)
  • Table load is only slightly above the 1,400 kg (3,086 lb) of the BM-1400II
06

Best For

Wide plates and die sets needing up to 740 mm (29.1 in) of Y Long parts within 1,500 mm (59.1 in) of X Heavy cuts in steel on box ways Setups with a tool setter or probe station beside the part

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What makes the AWEA BM-1500II different from the other BM-II models?

Width. Y travel is 740 mm (29.1 in) where the BM-850II through BM-1400II have 650 mm (25.6 in), and the spindle center to column distance is 780 mm (30.7 in). The table is 1,600 x 700 mm (63.0 x 27.6 in) with a 1,450 kg (3,197 lb) rating, and the coolant tank holds 500 liter.

02 Is the Y travel of the BM-1500II longer than its table?

Yes, according to AWEA's table: Y travel is 740 mm (29.1 in) and the table size in the Y direction is 700 mm. The AF-1600II, a linear-guide machine with the same Y travel, is listed with a 1,700 x 740 mm (66.9 x 29.1 in) table.

03 What are the feed rates of the BM-1500II?

X and Y rapid feed is 30 m/min (1,181 ipm), Z rapid feed is 24 m/min (945 ipm) and the cutting feed rate is 1 - 15 m/min (39 - 591 ipm). Positioning accuracy is 0.008 mm and repeatability 0.006 mm to ISO230-2.

04 What spindle taper does the BM-1500II have?

BT40 as standard, with BT50 as an option. The listed spindle is belt-driven with a top speed of 8,000 rpm and a 7.5 / 11 kW (10.1 / 14.8 hp) motor. AWEA also describes a two-step gear spindle for the series, which is the standard spindle on the MAX models.
