Overview
The Haas VM-12 stretches Haas's mold machine design to 150 in (3,810 mm) of X travel. The table is 150 × 28 in (3,810 × 711 mm), Y travel is 32 in (813 mm), Z is 30 in (762 mm), and the 40-taper inline direct-drive spindle is rated 30 hp (22.4 kW) at up to 12,000 rpm.
The VM-10 offers the same Y, Z, spindle and table width with 120 in (3,048 mm) of X, so the question is simply whether the part, or the row of parts, needs the extra length. Haas lists 30 T-slots in Y on this table and 5 in X, on 4.92 in (125 mm) centres. A table this long can also be treated as more than one work area, with different jobs fixtured at each end, since the spindle reaches all of it.
Length has a cost in time. X rapids are 360 ipm (9.1 m/min), equal to the top cutting feed, so a traverse from one end to the other is the slowest move the machine makes; Y and Z rapid at 600 ipm (15.2 m/min). X and Y each have 4,100 lbf (18,238 N) of thrust and Z has 5,600 lbf (24,910 N). The 30+1 tool changer runs 2.8 s tool-to-tool and 3.6 s chip-to-chip.
Delivery needs planning. Haas's shipping table gives 36,300 lb (16,466 kg) and a domestic pallet of 343 × 110 × 130 in (871 × 280 × 331 cm), so the route into the building and the rigging have to suit a load 343 in long. Those are shipping dimensions, not the installed size. The 4,000 lb (1,814 kg) table load is unchanged from the VM-10. The starting price is US$421,995.

These describe the machine as shipped, which is what the rigger and the building entrance have to handle. They are not the installed floor space.
