How much does the AWEA SP-3016 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the AWEA SP-3016 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Three metres of X is where a bridge mill starts to be bought for long parts and not only heavy ones, and the AWEA SP-3016 sits at that point: 3,060 mm (120.5 in) of X travel over a 3,260 x 1,500 mm (128.3 x 59.1 in) table rated for 10,000 kg (22,046 lb). Y is 1,600 mm (63.0 in), Z is 760 mm (29.9 in), and the machine weighs 23,500 kg (51,808 lb).
It is the longest SP that keeps the full X rapid. The SP-3016 traverses X and Y at 20,000 mm/min (787 ipm), the same as the SP-2016, while the SP-4016 drops to 15,000 mm/min (591 ipm) in X. Cutting feed is 1 ~ 10,000 mm/min (0.04 ~ 394 ipm).
How the axes are carried explains the mix of speed and load. X and Y ride on roller type linear guide ways, and the Y-axis ways are offset from each other to shorten the distance from the spindle to the cross beam. Z uses a hardened and ground box way. The bridge and base are a one-piece casting with hand scraped contact surfaces, the table is rib reinforced, and each of the three ball screws has a mechanical torque clutch that lets go on an overload or a crash.
Tooling follows the 50-taper spindle. The magazine holds 32 tools as standard, with 24, 40 or 60 as options. A tool may be 400 mm (15.7 in) long and weigh 20 kg (44 lb); the diameter row reads Ø127 / 215 mm (Ø5.0 / 8.5 in). A floating type hydraulic tool release device keeps the unclamping force off the spindle bearing.
Within AWEA's own range, the VP-3016 is the lighter-duty alternative at 3,000 mm (118.1 in) of X with a 7,000 kg (15,432 lb) table, and the LP-3016 carries the same 10,000 kg on the same size of table at a machine weight of 28,500 kg (62,831 lb).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- X rapid stays at 20,000 mm/min (787 ipm) over 3,060 mm (120.5 in) of travel; the SP-4016 is listed at 15,000 mm/min (591 ipm)
- 10,000 kg (22,046 lb) table load, where the VP-3016 of similar travel is listed at 7,000 kg (15,432 lb)
- 32-tool magazine as standard with 24, 40 or 60 as options, for tools up to 400 mm (15.7 in) and 20 kg (44 lb)
- Roller type linear guide ways on X and Y with a hardened, ground box way on Z
- Mechanical torque clutches on the three axes ball screws to limit damage from an overload or crash
Limitations
- Table width is 1,500 mm (59.1 in) under a 1,700 mm (66.9 in) column gap; the VP-3016 has 1,800 mm (70.9 in) between its columns
- VDI positioning accuracy widens to P ≤ 0.025 mm over full travel, from P ≤ 0.020 mm on the SP-2016
- Tools are limited to 20 kg (44 lb) and 400 mm (15.7 in), which rules out long boring bars and very heavy cutter bodies
- The semi-closed loop feedback reads an encoder on the ball screw end; the maker's pages for this series list no linear scales

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The X and Y axes run on roller type linear guide ways, which AWEA describes as suited to heavy-duty cutting, fast movement and low abrasion. The Z axis has a hardened, precisely ground box way. If the machine is ordered with a high speed direct drive spindle, Z can optionally be built with roller type linear guide ways as well.
02
The standard magazine holds 32 tools; 24, 40 and 60 are listed as options. Maximum tool length is 400 mm (15.7 in) and maximum tool weight is 20 kg (44 lb). The maximum diameter is given as Ø127 / 215 mm (Ø5.0 / 8.5 in). The spindle taper is BT50 (ISO50), or DIN69871-A as an option.
03
Both are rated for 10,000 kg (22,046 lb) on a 3,260 x 1,500 mm (128.3 x 59.1 in) table, with 1,600 mm (63.0 in) of Y, 760 mm (29.9 in) of Z and a 20,000 mm/min (787 ipm) X rapid. The SP-3016 has 3,060 mm (120.5 in) of X and weighs 23,500 kg (51,808 lb). The LP-3016 has 3,000 mm (118.1 in) of X and weighs 28,500 kg (62,831 lb), so the foundation and the lifting plan differ more than the working envelope does.
04
Compressed air at 5 ~ 8 kg/cm². The coolant tank holds 420 liter with a 1 HP pump, the hydraulic tank 120 liter with a 7.5 HP unit, and the lubrication tank 6 liter. The floor has to take a 23,500 kg (51,808 lb) machine plus up to 10,000 kg (22,046 lb) on the table.
05
The ball screws of all three axes are fitted with mechanical torque clutches, which AWEA says minimize damage from overload or a crash. On the control side, the i Console includes a tool loading monitor that watches each tool setting and detects tool breakage.
