Overview

With 500 mm (19.69 in) of X travel, 400 mm (15.75 in) of Y and 330 mm (12.99 in) of Z, the Akira Seiki PC500 is the mid-size machine of the PC tapping center line. The table is 650 x 400 mm (25.59 x 15.75 in).

Akira Seiki presents the PC series as economical tapping centers with fast feeds and tool changes, and the figures bear that out. Rapid feed is 60 / 60 / 60 m/min (2,362 / 2,362 / 2,362 ipm). The servo changer swaps tools in 1.7 s, or 2.0 s chip to chip, from a 21T magazine. On a part with thirty holes and six tools, most of the cycle is movement, and movement is what this machine does quickly.

The BT30 spindle is air cooled and peaks at 9 HP (6.7 kW). The listed speed is 12,000 rpm and a 24,000 rpm spindle is optional. Compared with the smaller PC460, the PC500 accepts longer and larger tools, 200 mm (7.87 in) and 100 mm (3.94 in) in diameter, and doubles the coolant tank to 200 L (52.83 gal).

Weight is 2,450 kg (5,401 lb) and floor space 1,560 x 2,530 mm (61.42 x 99.61 in). No table load is shown on this page, because the kilogram and pound figures the maker prints for the PC500 do not agree. Supply: 15 kVA and 0.5 MPa (72.5 psi) air.
