Overview

The Akira Seiki PC500HSC is the high-torque version of the PC500 tapping center. Akira Seiki's claim for the HSC models is a rigid spindle that can cut hard materials and take over part of the work of larger-taper machines, and the maker calls them well suited to die-casting materials.

In the table that shows up as a 15,000 rpm BT30 spindle with 10 HP (7.5 kW) peak, in place of the 9 HP (6.7 kW), 12,000 rpm spindle of the PC500. Axis acceleration is stated, at 1.2 / 1.2 / 1.2 G. Rapid traverse is lower than on the standard machine, 40 / 40 / 40 m/min (1,575 / 1,575 / 1,575 ipm), and the tool change is 1.6 s tool to tool.

The envelope is unchanged: 500 mm (19.7 in) in X, 400 mm (15.7 in) in Y and 330 mm (13.0 in) in Z, on a 650 x 400 mm (25.6 x 15.7 in) table that takes 250 kg (551 lb). The servo magazine holds 21T. Tools are limited to 50 mm (2.0 in) in diameter, 200 mm (7.9 in) in length and 3 kg (7 lb).

The machine weighs 2,400 kg (5,291 lb) and needs 15 kVA and air at 5 kgf/cm². Coolant capacity is 200 L (52.8 gal). The spindle is air cooled on this model; the two larger HSC machines are listed with oil cooling.
