Overview

The V3XP is the first Akira Seiki V-series machine with the stronger spindle: 30 HP (22.4 kW) peak in the V version, 35 HP (26.1 kW) in the XP. Travels are 815 mm (32.1 in), 540 mm (21.3 in) and 560 mm (22 in) in X, Y and Z, on a 950 x 480 mm (37.4 x 19 in) table.

Those travels and that table are the same as the SR32 XP. The difference is in what sits on the column. The SR32 XP has an 18 HP (13.4 kW) spindle and 24T; the V3XP has nearly twice the peak power and a 28T magazine. So the V3XP is the pick when the same-size parts are cut harder, or in tougher material.

Spindle speed is 10,000 rpm for the V and 12,000 rpm for the XP, both BT40. The maker also lists an 8,000 rpm spindle as an option. A lower-speed option on a 40-taper machine usually means more torque low down, but the table gives no torque figure, so ask before assuming it.

Table load is 900 kg (1,984 lb) standard and 1,080 kg (2,380 lb) maximum. The machine needs 30 kVA and 0.5 MPa (72.5 psi) air, holds 350 L (92.5 gal) of coolant, and is listed with drawer or chip screw chip disposal.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 30 HP (22.4 kW) peak on the V and 35 HP (26.1 kW) on the XP
  • 815 mm (32.1 in) x 540 mm (21.3 in) x 560 mm (22 in) travels
  • 28T magazine, four more than the SR32 XP's 24T
  • 8,000 rpm spindle listed as an option

Limitations

  • Adjacent tools are limited to 65 mm (2.6 in), smaller than the 80 mm (3.2 in) of the SR32 XP
  • No torque figure is published for any of the three spindles
  • A 30 kVA supply is required
  • Rapid feed, dimensions and weight are printed twice in the maker's table with no explanation of which is which

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How powerful is the V3XP spindle?

The table lists 30 HP (22.4 kW) peak for the V version and 35 HP (26.1 kW) peak for the XP version. Maximum speed is 10,000 rpm (V) or 12,000 rpm (XP), with an 8,000 rpm spindle listed as an option. The taper is BT40.

02 What is the difference between the V3XP and the SR32 XP?

Envelope and table are identical. The SR32 XP has 18 HP (13.4 kW) peak at 11,000 rpm and 24T; the V3XP has 30 HP (22.4 kW) or 35 HP (26.1 kW) and 28T. The V3XP is the heavier-cutting machine of the two.

03 What weight can the V3XP table carry?

900 kg (1,984 lb) as the standard loading and 1,080 kg (2,380 lb) as the maximum. The table is 950 x 480 mm (37.4 x 19 in) with five 18 mm T-slots at 80 mm pitch.

04 How are chips removed on the V3XP?

Akira Seiki lists two arrangements, a drawer and a chip screw. The table does not say which is standard, so have the chip handling written into the order. Coolant tank capacity is 350 L (92.5 gal).
