Röders RXP400DS — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Röders RXP400DS that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Röders or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

A 199 mm table on a rotary-swivel unit, a 15 kg workpiece limit and spindles of 40,000 or 50,000 rpm: the Röders RXP400DS is a 5-axis machine for very small parts. Its machining range is 310 mm x 294 mm x 210 mm (12.2 x 11.6 x 8.3 in), the same as the 3-axis RXP400 it is derived from.

The swivelling range is -30/+135 degrees and the rotation range is given as almost unlimited. Swivelling past the horizontal to 135 degrees lets the tool reach undercut features on a part held from one side, which is what small 5-axis work such as dental parts and electrodes with angled faces asks for. Röders supports the C-axis on both sides and fits optical encoders in the rotary axes as well as the linear ones, with positioning accuracies of 2 arcseconds stated for the series.

Spindle and tooling are the micro-machining set: 50,000 rpm with HSK E25 or 40,000 rpm with HSK E32, and a maximum tool diameter of 6 mm or 10 mm depending on the interface. The linear tool changer has 16 places, two fewer than on the RXP400, with chain changers of 40, 70 or more places as options. Grinding is not possible on this model.

Everything else is small as well. The machine weighs about 3.2 t, stands on W 2,480 mm x L 1,995 mm x H 2,080 mm and collects chips in 1 chip box. The 15 kg (33 lb) limit includes the chuck or fixture, so check the clamping weight before planning a part near the top of that figure. An integrated chuck for the table is optional.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Swivelling range of -30/+135 degrees with an almost unlimited rotation range
  • Spindles of 50,000 rpm (HSK E25) or 40,000 rpm (HSK E32) as standard
  • Two-sided support of the C-axis and optical encoders in the rotary axes, with 2 arcseconds positioning accuracy stated for the series
  • Same 310 mm x 294 mm x 210 mm machining range as the 3-axis RXP400
  • Fits in W 2,480 mm x L 1,995 mm x H 2,080 mm at about 3.2 t

Limitations

  • Workpiece weight is limited to 15 kg (33 lb)
  • The table is 199 mm in diameter, so only small parts and pallets fit
  • Tools are limited to 6 mm diameter with HSK E25 and 10 mm with HSK E32
  • Grinding is not possible, by the maker's own statement

Best For

5-axis micro-machining of parts up to 15 kg Dental applications and small electrodes with angled or undercut faces Small mould inserts finished with tools of 10 mm or less Small production parts on an optional integrated chuck

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the rotary axis ranges of the RXP400DS?

The swivelling range is -30/+135 degrees and the rotation range is listed as almost unlimited. Röders states that the swivel direction of the A-axis is perpendicular to the X-axis movement, which it describes as dynamic decoupling.

02 How heavy a part can the RXP400DS take?

Workpiece weight is limited to 15 kg (33 lb) on a 199 mm table. The 3-axis RXP400 takes 100 kg on its 450 mm x 300 mm table, so the 5-axis unit is for small parts only.

03 Which spindles are available on the RXP400DS?

The standard choice is 50,000 rpm with HSK E25 or 40,000 rpm with HSK E32, with others on request. HSK E32 is the largest interface on this model. Maximum tool diameter is 6 mm for HSK E25 and 10 mm for HSK E32.

04 What is the difference between the RXP400DS and the RXP400DSC?

The technical data of the two are almost identical. Röders describes the rotary-swivel unit of the RXP400DSC as having a large offset, and its required space is higher at H 2,160 mm, against H 2,080 mm for the RXP400DS.
