Overview

The Röders RXP400 is the smallest machine in the RXP range, a 3-axis high-speed mill with a machining range of 310 mm x 294 mm x 210 mm (12.2 x 11.6 x 8.3 in). Röders describes it as a machine for high-precision micro-machining with high rpm, and the spindle choice shows what that means: 50,000 rpm with HSK E25 or 40,000 rpm with HSK E32 as standard.

Those two spindles set the tool sizes. Maximum tool diameter is 6 mm with HSK E25 and 10 mm with HSK E32, and HSK E32 is the largest interface the machine takes. This is a finishing and small-cutter machine by design. Clearing a pocket with a large cutter is outside what the interface allows, and Röders states plainly that grinding is not possible on this model.

The table measures 450 mm x 300 mm (17.7 x 11.8 in) with 12 mm T-slots at a distance of 50 mm, and integrated chucks are an option. It carries a workpiece of up to 100 kg (220 lb), far more than the 15 kg of the 5-axis RXP400DS, so the 3-axis version is the one for electrode holders, small mould inserts and fixture plates with several parts. There is 325 mm (12.8 in) between spindle nose and table.

Tools sit in a linear changer with 18 places. Chain changers with 40, 70 or more places are optional and can be loaded during machining, which matters on long unattended electrode runs. A measuring laser is integrated. The machine weighs about 3.2 t and needs a space of W 2,480 mm x L 1,995 mm x H 2,080 mm, with chips collected in 1 chip box unless the optional conveyor is ordered.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Standard spindle choice of 50,000 rpm with HSK E25 or 40,000 rpm with HSK E32 for small-tool, high-speed work
  • 450 mm x 300 mm (17.7 x 11.8 in) T-slot table carries up to 100 kg (220 lb); integrated chucks are optional
  • Optional chain changers with 40, 70 or more places can be loaded during machining
  • Integrated measuring laser for the tools
  • Small installation: W 2,480 mm x L 1,995 mm x H 2,080 mm and about 3.2 t

Limitations

  • Maximum tool diameter is 6 mm with HSK E25 and 10 mm with HSK E32, which rules out larger roughing cutters
  • Röders states that grinding is not possible on this model
  • The machining range of 310 mm x 294 mm x 210 mm restricts the machine to small moulds, electrodes and parts
  • The feed range ends at 42,000 mm/min, against 60,000 mm/min on the larger RXP801
06

Best For

Micro-machining of small mould inserts with tools up to 10 mm Electrode production, with the optional integrated chucks Dental applications and small production parts Fixture plates carrying several small parts, up to 100 kg in total

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What spindle does the Röders RXP400 have?

Two standard spindles are listed: 50,000 rpm with an HSK E25 interface or 40,000 rpm with HSK E32. Maximum tool diameter is 6 mm for HSK E25 and 10 mm for HSK E32. Other spindles are available on request, but HSK E32 is the largest interface offered on this model.

02 How large a workpiece fits on the RXP400?

The machining range is 310 mm x 294 mm x 210 mm (12.2 x 11.6 x 8.3 in) and the table is 450 mm x 300 mm. Workpiece weight is limited to 100 kg (220 lb), and the maximum distance between spindle nose and T-slot table is 325 mm (12.8 in).

03 How does the RXP400 differ from the RXP400DS?

The RXP400 is the 3-axis version with a 450 mm x 300 mm T-slot table and a 100 kg workpiece limit. The RXP400DS adds a rotary-swivel unit with a 199 mm table and takes workpieces up to 15 kg. Both share the same machining range and the same spindle choice.

04 Can the RXP400 be used for jig grinding?

No. Röders lists grinding as not possible on this model. The machine is built around small tools at high spindle speed: the largest interface is HSK E32 and the largest tool diameter is 10 mm.

05 How many tools does the RXP400 hold?

The standard linear changer has 18 places. Chain changers with 40, 70 or more places are optional and can be loaded while the machine is cutting. An integrated measuring laser checks the tools.
