Ibarmia ZMS5 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Ibarmia ZMS5 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Ibarmia or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

Big tool holders on a medium column: that is the Ibarmia ZMS5. It takes SK-50, BT-50, HSK A-100 or CAPTO 8 tooling in a tilting ZS head, with a spindle listed at 43 kW (57.7 hp) and 8,000 rpm.

The spindle figures say what the machine is for. 8,000 rpm suits face mills, boring bars and large drills in steel and cast iron, and the larger interface gives those tools a stiffer seat. Small end mills in aluminium are another matter, since they want more revolutions than this spindle has. A shop that needs both kinds of work should compare the ZMS4, which lists 46 kW (61.7 hp) and 12,000 rpm on SK-40 class holders inside the same travels.

Those travels are 800 or 1,000 mm (31.5 or 39.4 in) in Y, 800 or 900 mm (31.5 or 35.4 in) in Z, and up to 12,000 mm (472.4 in) in X. Ibarmia calls the column design Zero Gravity and states constant rigidity along the entire cross travel. On a machine meant for heavy tools that is the claim to test at a demonstration, with a cut taken at full Y extension.

B tilts +/- 120º. Does that make it a 5 axis machine? Only with a rotary table. Ibarmia lists integrated tables, bolt-on tables for vertical or horizontal use and extra-long trunnion fixtures, and the choice decides how the part is presented to the head.

The large-size ZLS5 above it keeps the same four tool-holder options, raises the listed spindle to 84 kW (112.6 hp) at 12,000 rpm and offers 1,100 mm (43.3 in) of Z.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • SK-50, BT-50, HSK A-100 or CAPTO 8 tool holders for large face mills, long boring bars and heavy drills
  • 43 kW (57.7 hp) spindle in a head that tilts +/- 120º on the B axis
  • X travel up to 12,000 mm (472.4 in) with a fixed table and a travelling column
  • Ibarmia states constant rigidity along the entire cross travel for its Zero Gravity column design
  • Available as Z Extreme for milling or as Z Multiprocess for turning and milling

Limitations

  • 8,000 rpm is the listed maximum, which holds back small-diameter tools in aluminium
  • Listed power of 43 kW (57.7 hp) is lower than the 46 kW (61.7 hp) of the ZMS4 and well below the 84 kW (112.6 hp) of the ZLS5
  • Z is 800 or 900 mm (31.5 or 35.4 in); the 1,100 mm (43.3 in) Z belongs to the ZLS5
  • No spindle torque figure is published on the page, and torque is what heavy roughing with large cutters depends on

Best For

Heavy milling and boring of long steel and cast-iron parts Large face mills and long-reach tools at up to 8,000 rpm Angled faces and bores within the +/- 120º tilt of the ZS head Shops already tooled in SK-50, BT-50, HSK A-100 or CAPTO 8

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What spindle does the Ibarmia ZMS5 have?

Ibarmia lists 43 kW (57.7 hp) and 8,000 rpm, with SK-50, BT-50, HSK A-100 or CAPTO 8 as the tool-holder options. Torque is not printed on the product page. For heavy roughing, ask for the torque curve before comparing it with other machines, because the power figure alone doesn't show what is available at low speed.

02 How does the ZMS5 differ from the ZMS5_30.08 Extreme Star Edition?

The ZMS5 is the configurable model: X up to 12,000 mm (472.4 in), Y of 800 or 1,000 mm (31.5 or 39.4 in), Z of 800 or 900 mm (31.5 or 35.4 in), and four tool-holder options. The ZMS5_30.08 Extreme Star Edition is Ibarmia's fixed standard configuration of it, with 3,000 mm (118.1 in) of X and 800 mm (31.5 in) of Y and Z.

03 Can the ZMS5 do turning?

Yes, in the Z Multiprocess version. Ibarmia lists built-in rotary tables from ø800 mm to ø1200 mm for vertical mill-turn work, with loads up to 6000 kg and speeds up to 800 rpm. For horizontal turning it lists chucks up to ø630 mm and speeds up to 3000 rpm. An automatic changer for a long boring bar is offered for internal diameters.

04 Is the ZMS5 or the ZLS5 the better fit for heavy cutting?

Both take the same tool holders. The ZMS5 lists 43 kW (57.7 hp) at 8,000 rpm on the medium column. The ZLS5 lists 84 kW (112.6 hp) at 12,000 rpm on the large column, with Y available up to 1,100 mm (43.3 in). If the work regularly loads the spindle near its limit, the ZLS5 has far more in reserve.
