Overview

The Matec 30PB | 40PB is the floor-running version of MATEC's moving gantry machine. The gantry travels beside a table set at shop-floor level, which MATEC sums up as ground-level accessibility: parts and fixtures can be brought to the table without lifting them onto a raised bed.

This layout changes how the load figure is given. The table is rated at 4,000 kg/m², a load per unit of area, where the table-type 30P | 40P is listed with 4,000 kg. On a floor plate 3,500 to 40,500 mm long and 2,100 to 3,100 mm wide, that allows far heavier workpieces in total than any of the table machines.

Clearance is larger too. Clearance height is 1,500 or 1,800 mm (59.1 or 70.9 in) with matching Z travels, and clearance width starts at 2,900 mm, against 1,900 mm on the 30P | 40P. X travel is 3,000 to 40,000 mm and Y 2,500 to 4,300 mm.

MATEC describes the floor-running machines as variants of its modular system whose main difference is the type of head. This one has the 2-axis fork head: 250 mm (9.8 in) swivel radius, ±180° in C, ±105° in A. Spindles run to 10,000, 15,000 or 24,000 rpm with up to 96 kW (128.7 hp) and 690 Nm (509 lb-ft). Axis drive is by ball screw at 30 m/min (1,181 ipm), with a linear drive as the option.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Floor-level table with ground-level accessibility
  • Table load given as 4,000 kg/m²
  • X travel from 3,000 to 40,000 mm (118.1 to 1,574.8 in)
  • Clearance width of 2,900 to 3,400 mm (114.2 to 133.9 in)
  • Spindle speeds up to 24,000 rpm

Limitations

  • Only two Z travels, 1,500 or 1,800 mm (59.1 or 70.9 in)
  • A floor-running machine needs a prepared foundation; MATEC's page gives no foundation data
  • Fork head limited to ±105° in the A axis
  • 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) feed and rapid traverse with the standard ball screw

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does floor-running mean on the 30PB | 40PB?

The gantry moves along the shop floor beside a stationary table at floor level, instead of riding on a raised machine bed. MATEC's page stresses ground-level accessibility for this series and calls the machines variants of its modular system.

02 How much load can the table take?

MATEC gives 4,000 kg/m², depending on table size and drive system. Unlike the 4,000 kg total printed for the table-type 30P | 40P, this is a load per square metre, so the permissible total rises with the area the workpiece rests on.

03 What are the travels and clearances of the 30PB | 40PB?

X travel is 3,000 to 40,000 mm, Y travel 2,500 to 4,300 mm and Z travel 1,500 or 1,800 mm. Clearance height is 1,500 or 1,800 mm and clearance width 2,900 to 3,400 mm (114.2 to 133.9 in). Table length is 3,500 to 40,500 mm.

04 How does it differ from the 30PBU | 40PBU?

By the head, which MATEC calls the main difference within the floor-running series. The 30PB | 40PB has the 2-axis fork head with ±105° in A and a 250 mm swivel radius. The 30PBU | 40PBU has the universal head with ±180° in A and 440 mm.
