Overview

The Matec 30PBU | 40PBU pairs MATEC's floor-running moving gantry with a 2-axis universal head. MATEC puts the advantage of this version in two things: the versatility of the head and the accessibility of the workpiece, which stands on a table at floor level.

The head rotates ±180° in C and ±180° in A on a swivel radius of 440 mm (17.3 in). Large fabrications usually arrive with features on every face and at odd angles. That range decides how many of them can be reached without turning the part, and turning a part of this size is the operation a floor-running machine exists to avoid.

X travel is 3,000 to 40,000 mm and Y 2,500 to 4,300 mm (98.4 to 169.3 in). Z travel and clearance height are both 1,500 or 1,800 mm, and clearance width is 2,900 to 3,400 mm. Against the fork-head 30PB | 40PB, the table width starts at 2,500 mm instead of 2,100 mm. The table load is printed as a maximum of 4,000 kg (8,818 lb) rather than per square metre, a point to clarify before a heavy part is planned.

According to MATEC the basic design of all floor-running machines is identical and built from its modular system. Spindles are 10,000, 15,000 or 24,000 rpm with maxima of 96 kW (128.7 hp) and 690 Nm (509 lb-ft); tools are up to 450 mm (17.7 in) long. A ball screw drives the axes at 30 m/min (1,181 ipm), and a linear drive is optional.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Universal head with ±180° in both rotary axes on a floor-running gantry
  • Workpiece at floor level, with what MATEC calls optimal accessibility
  • X travel from 3,000 to 40,000 mm (118.1 to 1,574.8 in)
  • Clearance height and Z travel of up to 1,800 mm (70.9 in)
  • Maximum spindle torque of 690 Nm (509 lb-ft)

Limitations

  • Table load is printed as 4,000 kg (8,818 lb), not as a load per area as on the 30PB | 40PB
  • The 440 mm (17.3 in) swivel radius shortens the usable Z travel with the head tilted
  • Minimum table width is 2,500 mm (98.4 in)
  • Standard axis drive is a ball screw at 30 m/min (1,181 ipm)

Best For

Large fabrications with angled features on several faces Long, heavy parts that cannot be turned over between setups Floor-level loading of bulky workpieces

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the head range of the 30PBU | 40PBU?

The 2-axis universal head rotates ±180° in the C axis and ±180° in the A axis. Its swivel radius is 440 mm (17.3 in), and both axes have direct measuring systems. MATEC names the versatility of this head as the advantage of the machine version.

02 What size of table is available?

Table length runs from 3,500 to 40,500 mm (137.8 to 1,594.5 in) and table width from 2,500 to 3,100 mm (98.4 to 122.0 in). The table load is given as a maximum of 4,000 kg (8,818 lb), depending on table size and drive system.

03 How much room is there under the gantry?

Clearance height is 1,500 or 1,800 mm (59.1 or 70.9 in) and clearance width 2,900 to 3,400 mm (114.2 to 133.9 in). Z travel is also 1,500 or 1,800 mm. With the universal head tilted, its 440 mm swivel radius has to be allowed for.

04 Which spindles, tools and controls are listed?

Speeds of 10,000, 15,000 or 24,000 rpm, a maximum of 96 kW (128.7 hp) and 690 Nm (509 lb-ft), and the HSK63 and HSK100 performance classes. The magazine has 40 or 48 places, or a maximum of 680. Tools may weigh 10 or 20 kg (22 or 44 lb). Control is SIEMENS or HEIDENHAIN.
