Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hartford Aero-846G-5X that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Eight metres by 4,100 mm of table and 4,600 mm (181.1 in) of Y travel: the Hartford Aero-846G-5X is the widest eight-metre gantry type 5-axis machining center in the Aero series. X travel is 8,000 mm (315.0 in), and the table measures 8,000 x 4,100 mm (315.0 x 161.4 in).
An envelope of this size is sought for wing and tail components, fuselage panels and the moulds they are laid up in. Most of that work is aluminium or composite and runs on the HSK-A63 spindle, which the table lists at 18,000 or 24,000 rpm. Titanium fittings and steel mould inserts go to the HSK-A100 at 12,000 rpm.
The tool tip on such parts may be several metres from any guideway, so the Z axis has to be stiff and thermally quiet. Hartford uses four linear guideways in a three binding structure, a twin ballscrew design, and cooling of the motor base, ballscrew, nuts and bearings. Z travel is 1,100 mm, or 1,300 mm as an option.
The gantry is moved along X by rack and pinion, with a feed rate up to 50 m/min, and the Y axis has three linear guideways and a linear motor design. The narrower Aero-841G-5X has an 8,000 x 3,600 mm (315.0 x 141.7 in) table with 4,100 mm (161.4 in) of Y.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 8,000 x 4,100 mm (315.0 x 161.4 in) table with 4,600 mm (181.1 in) of Y travel
- HSK-A63 at 18,000 or 24,000 rpm for aluminium and composites
- Z axis with four guideways, twin ballscrews and cooling
- X feed rate up to 50 m/min by rack and pinion
Limitations
- Z travel of 1,100 mm, or 1,300 mm, for a very large X/Y envelope
- The table has no spindle power row
- Table rating of 5,000 kg/m² is rarely the limit for the light-alloy work this model targets

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The table is 8,000 x 4,100 mm (315.0 x 161.4 in). Travels are 8,000 mm (315.0 in) in X, 4,600 mm (181.1 in) in Y and 1,100 mm in Z, with 1,300 mm of Z optional.
02
The taper row reads HSK-A63 or HSK-A100. The HSK-A63 spindle runs 18,000 or 24,000 rpm and suits aluminium and composites; the HSK-A100 runs 12,000 rpm and carries larger tools.
03
Hartford states a feed rate up to 50 m/min for the rack and pinion X drive, which it uses on X axes of 8 meters and more. No rapid figures for Y or Z are given.
04
Yes. The Aero-1046G-5X has a 10,000 x 4,100 mm (393.7 x 161.4 in) table and 10,000 mm (393.7 in) of X travel, with the same Y and Z travels.
