Hwacheon SIRIUS-2500

The Hwacheon SIRIUS-2500 is a large double-column machining center with 2,300 mm (90.6 in) of Y travel, 900 mm (35.4 in) of Z and a BBT-50 built-in spindle rated 30 / 25 kW (40.2 / 33.5 hp). The standard machine has 3,100 mm (122.0 in) of X travel and a table rated 10,000 kg (22,046 lb); the L version extends X to 4,000 mm (157.5 in) and the rating to 15,000 kg (33,069 lb).

Table size depends on the configuration. With the 8K spindle the table is 3,300 x 2,000 mm (129.9 x 78.7 in), with the 12K spindle 3,200 x 2,000 mm (126.0 x 78.7 in), and the L version carries 4,200 x 2,000 mm (165.4 x 78.7 in). Eight 22 mm T-slots at 200 mm pitch hold the work. What passes between the columns is set by the workpiece passage: 2,300 x 1,000 mm (90.6 x 39.4 in), width by height, or 2,400 x 1,000 mm (94.5 x 39.4 in) on the L version. A Gap variant raises the spindle-nose-to-table range from 250 to 1,150 mm (9.8 to 45.3 in) to 550 to 1,450 mm (21.7 to 57.1 in) for taller parts.

The spindle is offered at 8,000 rpm (8K) or 12,000 rpm (12K), with the same 30 / 25 kW (40.2 / 33.5 hp) rating on both. It is a built-in motor design with oil-jet lubrication and an oil-cooled jacket, on a Ø100 mm (Ø3.9 in) bearing. CAT-50 holders are an option to the standard BBT-50. The 40-tool magazine uses memory-random selection and takes tools up to Ø200 mm (Ø7.9 in) with free neighbours or Ø120 mm (Ø4.7 in) with all pockets full, 450 mm (17.7 in) long and 20 kg (44.1 lb).

All three axes rapid at 16 m/min (630 ipm) on the standard machine; the L version drops X to 10 m/min (394 ipm). Feed motors are 9.0 / 6.0 / 9.0 kW (12.1 / 8.0 / 12.1 hp) on X, Y and Z.

The machine weighs 39,700 kg (87,523 lb), or 44,200 kg (97,443 lb) as the L, and measures 8,830 x 5,000 x 4,556 mm (347.6 x 196.9 x 179.4 in); the L is 10,770 mm (424.0 in) long and the Gap version 4,856 mm (191.2 in) tall. It needs 75 kVA, air at 0.5 to 0.7 MPa with 1,870 NL/min of flow, and an 850 L (225 US gal) coolant tank. The control is a Fanuc 31i-B.
