Overview
The Hwacheon U1 is a compact 40-taper vertical with 600 mm (23.6 in) of X, 450 mm (17.7 in) of Y and 350 mm (13.8 in) of Z, a 15,000 rpm spindle rated 18.5 / 15 kW (24.8 / 20.1 hp) and 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) rapids on all three axes. The table is 700 x 450 mm (27.6 x 17.7 in) and carries 500 kg (1,102 lb), which is more than the 400 kg (882 lb) of the Hi-M G1 on a table of similar size.
For a machine with 600 mm of X the spindle is strong, and the two figures of its rating sit close together at 18.5 and 15 kW. The bearings sit on a Ø70 mm (Ø2.8 in) bore with air-oil lubrication and jacket cooling, and the taper is ISO#40 BBT-40, with CAT-40, HSK-A63 and SK-40 shanks as options. Against the 24,000 rpm HSK-E40 spindle of the Hi-M760, the U1 gives up top speed for a larger taper and more power.
The working envelope is small.
