Huron GU3 Five — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Huron GU3 Five that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Huron or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Huron GU3 Five is the smallest of the GU moving-gantry five-axis machining centres. It pairs a 320 mm rotary table with travels of 420 x 520 x 420 mm (16.5 x 20.5 x 16.5 in) and an 18,000 rpm electrospindle, in a machine that weighs 6,000 kg (13,228 lb) and stands on 3,000 x 2,000 mm.

In the GU design the gantry moves and the tilting table stays put in X and Y. The table swivels ±120° on the A axis and rotates 360° on C, at 50 and 75 rpm. Huron drives the C axis directly. An optional turning table speed of 1,200 rpm is listed, which would let the machine turn small parts as well as mill them.

Thermal measures feature heavily in Huron's description: cooling of the ballscrew nuts and linear guides, a spindle chiller and roller-type guideways. The stated positioning is 0.004 mm with 0.002 mm repeatability, the best figures in the GU range.

Spindle power is 26 kW with 84/110 Nm, quoted for a Siemens motor at S1/S6-40%. The table carries 150 kg (331 lb), and 80 to 500 mm separates spindle nose from table plane. Rapids are 50 m/min. One point to confirm with Huron is the tool count: the table gives 32 tools for the GU3 Five, where the GU5 Five has 40 tools.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels of the Huron GU3 Five?

420 mm in X, 520 mm in Y and 420 mm in Z, with a rapid traverse of 50 m/min. The rotary table is 320 mm in diameter, carries 150 kg (331 lb) and sits 80 to 500 mm below the spindle nose.

02 What are the rotary axis figures?

The A axis swivels ±120° and the C axis rotates 360°. Swivelling and rotary speeds are 50 and 75 rpm. Huron lists a directly driven C axis and an optional turning table speed of 1,200 rpm.

03 How many tools does the GU3 Five hold?

Huron's specification table gives 32 tools for this model. Maximum tool diameter is 100 mm with all pockets full or 110 mm with adjacent pockets empty, maximum length 250 mm and maximum weight 10 kg. The GU5 Five and the larger GU models are listed with 40 tools, so confirm the count for this machine.

04 What spindle does the GU3 Five have?

An electrospindle with a top speed of 18,000 rpm. Power is 26 kW and torque 84/110 Nm, stated for a Siemens motor at S1/S6-40%. Huron's feature list names HSK 63 as the tool interface and includes a spindle chiller.
