How much does the Breton Ultrix E3 HD cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Breton Ultrix E3 HD that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Torque defines the Breton Ultrix E3 HD. In the rotary-table block of the version table, its maximum torque in S6 is 4,200 Nm (3,097.9 lb-ft), where the Breton Ultrix E3 column reads 2,700 Nm (1,991.5 lb-ft). The machine is otherwise the large Ultrix: a 5-axis vertical machining centre with trunnion table for milling and turning, travelling 1,700 mm (66.9 in) in X, 1,600 mm (63.0 in) in Y and 1,000 mm (39.4 in) in Z.
The HD is the heavy-cut variant. It pairs the higher torque with an HSK-T100 interface in place of Capto C8, and with a slightly lower rotary table speed of 450 rpm in S6. Lower speed and higher torque is the direction to go for large-diameter turning in titanium and superalloys, where surface speed is limited by the material and the cut needs force.
It is not slower elsewhere, which is less expected. The rotary axes run at 50 rpm in A and 100 rpm in C, faster than the Breton Ultrix E3 at 30 rpm and 60 rpm. C is unlimited and A tilts from -120° to 120°.
The table is 1,200 mm (47.2 in) in diameter with 22 mm (0.9 in) T-slots and a payload of 2,500 kg (5,511 lb). The turning bar stroke is 450 mm (17.7 in).
Breton lets up to two angle heads sit at the rear of the machine and change automatically, clamped hydraulically to the ram so that the full spindle torque passes through. Milling spindle ratings are not in the version table, so the motor spindle fitted to an HD has to be confirmed in the offer.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Maximum torque in S6 of 4,200 Nm (3,097.9 lb-ft), the highest in the Ultrix table
- HSK-T100 tool interface for milling and turning tools
- Fast rotary axes for its size: 50 rpm in A and 100 rpm in C
- 2,500 kg (5,511 lb) payload on a 1,200 mm (47.2 in) rotary table
- Up to two angle heads housed at the rear with automatic loading and unloading
Limitations
- Rotary table speed is 450 rpm in S6, below the 500 rpm of the Breton Ultrix E3
- HSK-T100 tooling is not interchangeable with the Capto C8 of the other Ultrix versions
- Linear rapids of 50 m/min (1,969 ipm) are below the 60 m/min (2,362 ipm) of the Breton Ultrix E2 in X and Y
- The version table does not say which drive the S6 torque figure refers to, and lists no milling spindle data

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Compared with the Breton Ultrix E3, the HD column lists a maximum torque in S6 of 4,200 Nm (3,097.9 lb-ft) against 2,700 Nm (1,991.5 lb-ft), an HSK-T100 taper, a rotary table speed of 450 rpm, a table diameter of 1,200 mm (47.2 in), and rotary axis speeds of 50 rpm in A and 100 rpm in C. The linear travels and the payload are unchanged.
02
The tool taper type row reads HSK-T100. The T form of HSK is made for machines that both mill and turn. The Breton Ultrix E2 and E3 columns list Capto C8, so tooling does not carry over between them and the HD.
03
The rotary table diameter is 1,200 mm (47.2 in), with a T-slot size of 22 mm (0.9 in) and a payload of 2,500 kg (5,511 lb). Its listed speed in S6 is 450 rpm.
04
Breton describes the Ultrix series as ideal for milling and turning of medium-size and large workpieces in titanium, superalloys, steel, lightweight alloys and special composites, and names aero engine components as a main application.
