Huron KX 300 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Huron KX 300 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Huron or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Huron KX 300 is the largest fixed-portal machine in the KX Large Series: 5,000 x 3,100 x 1,500 mm (196.9 x 122.0 x 59.1 in) of travel and a 5,200 x 2,000 mm table rated for 20,000 kg (44,092 lb). Huron's series text speaks of work areas supporting up to 20 tonnes, and this is the model that figure belongs to.

At this scale the Z axis matters as much as the plan area. With 1,500 mm of vertical travel and a forked five-axis head, the machine can work the sides and top of a tall casting or fabricated structure in one clamping. The 3,100 mm Y stroke passes the 2,000 mm table by a wide margin on each side.

Movement is deliberate. All three linear axes traverse at 20 m/min. The head matches the KX 100 and KX 200, with B at +/- 105°, C at +/- 190°, 30 rpm and 7,000 Nm. The spindle is also shared: HSK 63-A, 18,000 rpm, 30 kW and 240 Nm with a 1,200 rpm characteristic speed.

Installation is a building project. The machine is 15,000 mm deep, 8,890 mm wide and 6,370 mm high. Huron states 0.007 mm linear positioning and 0.004 mm repeatability, the same as on the smaller models, with direct measurement on linear and rotary axes. The changer holds 40 tools.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 20,000 kg (44,092 lb) table load on a 5,200 x 2,000 mm table
  • 1,500 mm of Z travel for tall workpieces
  • 5,000 mm of X and 3,100 mm of Y under a fixed portal
  • Linear positioning stated at 0.007 mm despite the size
  • Five-axis forked head with 7,000 Nm of motor and clamping torque

Limitations

  • Rapids are 20 m/min on all axes
  • 30 kW and 240 Nm is a modest spindle for 20,000 kg parts
  • Installation of 8,890 x 15,000 mm and 6,370 mm high
  • Tool weight limit of 8 kg excludes very large cutters
06

Best For

Very large moulds, dies and press tools Energy-sector castings and fabricated structures Aerospace assembly tooling and large jigs Five-side machining of parts up to 20,000 kg

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How big is the Huron KX 300 working envelope?

X travel is 5,000 mm, Y travel 3,100 mm and Z travel 1,500 mm. The fixed table is 5,200 x 2,000 mm and carries 20,000 kg (44,092 lb).

02 How fast are the axes of the KX 300?

Rapid feedrate is 20 m/min on X, Y and Z. The head axes B and C turn at 30 rpm. These are lower than on the smaller KX 200, which keeps 40 m/min on Y and Z.

03 What spindle does the KX 300 use?

The HSK 63-A spindle of the KX 100 family: 18,000 rpm maximum, 30 kW, 240 Nm and a characteristic speed of 1,200 rpm. Huron describes the series spindle as suited to roughing, finishing and high chip rates.

04 What building space does the KX 300 need?

Overall measurements with doors opened and conveyor are 8,890 mm in width, 15,000 mm in depth and 6,370 mm in height. Foundation, crane capacity and hall height all need to be settled with Huron before ordering.
