Overview

The Huron KX 100 is a double-column five-axis machining centre for heavy parts: a 12,000 kg (26,455 lb) table load, a square 2,300 x 2,300 mm X and Y stroke, and 1,000 mm of Z. Its forked head carries an 18,000 rpm HSK 63-A spindle with 240 Nm of torque.

This is a different machine from the KX 50 pair. Where those have a low-torque, high-power spindle, the KX 100 has 30 kW and 240 Nm with a characteristic speed of 1,200 rpm. Torque is available from low speed, which is what moulds, dies and steel structural parts need. Huron describes the series spindle as suited to both roughing and finishing and to high chip rates.

The head is built to match. B swivels +/- 105° and C rotates +/- 190°, at 30 rpm, with 7,000 Nm quoted for motor and clamping torque. Slower, stronger head axes hold position under heavy five-side cuts.

The fixed table is 2,500 x 1,250 mm. With 2,300 mm of Y over a 1,250 mm table, the head can reach well past the table edges to work the sides of a tall block. The changer has 40 housings and accepts tools up to 190 mm in diameter when neighbouring pockets are empty. Positioning is 0.007 mm on the linear axes. Footprint is 7,900 x 7,870 mm.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels of the Huron KX 100?

2,300 mm in X, 2,300 mm in Y and 1,000 mm in Z, at 40 m/min on all three. The fixed table is 2,500 x 1,250 mm and takes 12,000 kg (26,455 lb).

02 How does the KX 100 spindle differ from the KX 50 spindle?

The KX 100 spindle gives 30 kW and 240 Nm at up to 18,000 rpm, with a characteristic speed of 1,200 rpm. The KX 50 M spindle gives 75 kW and 75 Nm at up to 20,000 rpm. One is a torque spindle for steel, the other a power spindle for light alloys.

03 What is the head configuration?

A forked head with two rotary axes. B swivels +/- 105° and C rotates +/- 190°, both at 30 rpm. Huron gives 7,000 Nm for motor and clamping torque.

04 What comes next in size after the KX 100?

The KX 200, which has 3,300 mm of X travel and a 3,500 x 1,250 mm table, with the same Y, Z, head, spindle and 12,000 kg table load. The X rapid of the KX 200 is 25 m/min.
