Overview

The Huron MX 16 MT is a mill-turn centre for parts up to 5,000 kg (11,023 lb), with a 1,650 mm table that turns at 250 rpm inside a 2,300 x 2,300 x 1,250 mm (90.6 x 90.6 x 49.2 in) working volume.

Those travels are far larger than the table. A 2,300 mm stroke in X and Y over a 1,650 mm table means the universal head can stand well clear of the rim, turn an outside diameter with the spindle horizontal, and still swing in over the centre for boring and facing. On smaller mill-turn machines the travels barely exceed the table and such access has to be planned around.

At 250 rpm the table matches the MX 12 MT for speed while carrying 5,000 kg against 3,000 kg. The spindle is common to the big MX machines: HSK 100-A, 43 kW, 415 Nm, 10,000 rpm. Tool weight goes up to 30 kg.

One limit is diameter. Huron's table gives 120 mm as the maximum tool diameter for the MX 16, where the MX 12 MT lists 250 mm. Buyers planning large face mills or special turning heads should raise this with Huron. Tool length is 650 mm and the magazine has 60 housings. Positioning is 0.007 mm on the linear axes. Rapids are 40 m/min.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,650 mm turning table at 250 rpm with a 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) load
  • 2,300 mm X and Y travels give the head room around the table
  • 1,250 mm of Z for tall turned parts
  • 43 kW, 415 Nm HSK 100-A spindle
  • 30 kg tool weight limit and 650 mm tool length

Limitations

  • Maximum tool diameter is listed as 120 mm
  • Table load is half that of the MX 16 M
  • Height of roughly 6,650 mm, depending on APC
  • Spindle speed limited to 10,000 rpm

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What turning table does the Huron MX 16 MT have?

A milling/turning table of 1,650 mm diameter. It carries 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) and rotates at up to 250 rpm, the same table speed as the MX 12 MT.

02 What are the linear travels?

2,300 mm in X, 2,300 mm in Y and 1,250 mm in Z, with a rapid feedrate of 40 m/min. The head's A axis tilts from -45° to +180° at 100 rpm.

03 Is there a larger mill-turn MX than the MX 16 MT?

Yes, the MX 20 MT, which has 3,000 x 3,100 x 1,600 mm travels and a 2,200 mm table for 10,000 kg, turning at 120 rpm, with 20 m/min rapids.

04 What tools does the MX 16 MT take?

HSK 100-A tools up to 120 mm in diameter, 650 mm long and 30 kg (66 lb). The automatic tool changer has 60 housings.
