Overview

The Hartford MCW-20550 reaches the maximum length of the MCW series: 20,000 mm (787.4 in) of X travel. With a table of 20,000 x 4,000 mm (787.4 x 157.5 in) and 5,500 mm (216.5 in) of Y, it is the long, narrow one of the two twenty-metre models.

Length is the whole reason to buy it. The table is five times as long as wide, and the Y, Z and W travels are no different from those of the eight-metre MCW-8550. A shop therefore chooses this model for the longest single part it expects to see, or for running a line of shorter parts down the table.

Installation deserves early attention. Hartford's table lists travels, table size and spindle data but no machine weight, floor space or foundation details, and for a machine with a twenty-metre fixed table those are what the building has to be planned around. Request the foundation drawing with the quotation.

Table load is 3,000 kg/m². Z travel is 1,000 mm, or 1,200 or 1,400 mm, and the W axis moves the cross-beam 1,800 mm or 2,100 mm. The spindle is #50, with a gear head at 6,000 or 8,000 rpm or a hybrid at 10,000 rpm, and the magazine is a chain type for 40 or 62 tools.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 20,000 mm (787.4 in) of X travel, the longest in the series
  • Same Y, Z and W capacity as the shorter models, so parts transfer between sizes
  • Fixed table suited to a line of several workpieces
  • Gear head or hybrid #50 spindle up to 10,000 rpm

Limitations

  • No machine weight, floor space or foundation data in Hartford's table
  • Table width of 4,000 mm is small beside twenty metres of length
  • The table is rated at 3,000 kg/m², not by a total weight

Best For

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the X travel of the Hartford MCW-20550?

20,000 mm (787.4 in), the longest in the MCW series. Y travel is 5,500 mm (216.5 in), and the fixed table measures 20,000 x 4,000 mm (787.4 x 157.5 in).

02 Does a longer MCW have more Y or Z travel?

No. The MCW-8550, at 8,000 mm (315.0 in) of X, has the same 5,500 mm Y travel, Z options and W travel as the MCW-20550. Only the X travel and table length change within the x550 group.

03 What installation data does Hartford give for the MCW-20550?

The product table gives none: no machine weight, dimensions or power requirement. For a machine of this length the foundation plan and floor loading must be obtained from Hartford before the building work is planned.

04 What is the wider alternative to the MCW-20550?

The MCW-20650, with a 20,000 x 5,000 mm (787.4 x 196.9 in) table and 6,500 mm (255.9 in) of Y travel. Z and W travels, spindle and magazine are the same.
