Overview
The Brother Speedio W1000Xd1 is the largest machine in the Speedio W-series, offering a 1,000 mm (39.4 in) X-axis travel that extends the high-speed tapping center concept to larger workpieces. While the Speedio S-series targets small precision parts, the W1000Xd1 addresses medium-to-large panel parts, automotive structural components, and aerospace fittings that exceed the capacity of compact tap-centers.
The W1000Xd1 retains the Speedio lineage of ultra-fast tool changes and high acceleration, with a 16,000 RPM spindle, 0.9-second tool-to-tool change, and rapid traverse rates of 2,362 IPM (60 m/min). The BT30 spindle enables very high RPM and fast acceleration but requires 30-taper tooling separate from BT40 setups on other equipment.
Brother CNC-C00 control is deeply optimized for the Speedio architecture. The W1000Xd1 is a natural choice for shops already running smaller Speedio units that need to add larger-part capacity without changing their tooling ecosystem and operator training.
The W1000Xd1 occupies a unique niche: the speed and tool-change efficiency of a tapping center with X-axis travel approaching mid-size VMCs. Shops machining aluminum enclosures, electronics chassis, automotive panels, and similar flat parts with many features will find the W1000Xd1 dramatically faster than conventional VMCs of comparable size.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 1,000 mm X-axis travel brings Speedio high-speed tapping center performance to larger panel and structural parts
- 0.9-second tool-to-tool ATC and 60 m/min rapids keep cycle times extremely short on feature-rich parts
- BT30 taper and 16,000 RPM spindle are ideal for aluminum, non-ferrous alloys, and light steel at high feeds
- Shares tooling and control architecture with smaller Speedio machines, simplifying fleet management
- Significantly faster than conventional VMCs of similar X-axis capacity for high-feature-density aluminum work
Limitations
- BT30 spindle taper limits cutting depth and tool overhang compared to BT40 machines; not ideal for deep steel roughing
- 22-tool ATC capacity may be insufficient for highly complex parts requiring many unique tools
- Z-axis travel of 305 mm is shallow, limiting maximum part height and depth of cut in deep pockets

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The W1000Xd1 has 1,000 mm X-axis travel compared to the S700X1 700 mm, designed for larger panel parts. Both share the Speedio speed philosophy with BT30 spindles and sub-second tool changes.
02
BT30 is well-suited for the W1000Xd1 target applications in aluminum and light alloys at high speeds. For heavier steel cuts or deeper pockets, BT40 machines would be more appropriate.
03
The W1000Xd1 table supports workpieces up to 300 kg (661 lb), adequate for most panel and flat structural parts.
04
The W1000Xd1 is a 3-axis machine. For 5-axis capability in the Speedio lineup, the Speedio S300X1 offers a trunnion-style 5-axis configuration on a smaller footprint.
05
The W1000Xd1 uses the Brother CNC-C00 control, optimized for the Speedio machine architecture with Ethernet connectivity, probing integration, and tool life management.
