How much does the Hartford SW-323 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hartford SW-323 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Hartford SW-323 is the first SW box-guideway double-column machining center to list a direct-drive spindle. Beside the #50 gear head at 6,000 / 8,000 rpm it offers a #50 DDS spindle at 10,000 / 12,000 rpm. Travels are 3,000 mm (118.1 in) in X and 2,300 mm (90.6 in) in Y.
That second spindle changes what the machine can finish. A gear head is the right tool for roughing die steel at a few hundred rpm with a large cutter. It is a poor one for running a small ball-nose mill over the same die afterwards. At 12,000 rpm the DDS spindle brings the finishing pass onto the same machine and the same setup, which matters when the part weighs tonnes and is slow to move.
The table is 3,000 x 2,200 mm (118.1 x 86.6 in) and carries 10,000 kg (22,046 lb). T-slots are listed as 28 x 250 (12) mm, a wider slot than on the smaller SW models. Z travel is 780 mm, optionally 1,070 mm.
The motor row for the gear type reads 18.5/22 kW, with 22/26 kW and 30/37 kW optional (Cont. / 30 min). The magazine is an arm type with 32, 40 or 60 tools on BT-50 shanks. Hartford cites machine thermal displacement within 0.03mm for double-column machines below 6 meters.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- #50 DDS spindle at 10,000 / 12,000 rpm in addition to the gear head
- Y travel of 2,300 mm (90.6 in) over a 2,200 mm wide table
- Gear-type motor of 18.5/22 kW with options to 30/37 kW
- Thermal displacement within 0.03mm, per Hartford, for machines below 6 meters
- Arm-type magazine of 32, 40 or 60 tools
Limitations
- Table load of 10,000 kg (22,046 lb) is no higher than on the narrower SW-320
- The motor row is given for the gear type only; DDS motor data is not listed
- Z travel is 780 mm unless the 1,070 mm option is ordered
- The gear head tops out at 8,000 rpm

Hartford states that for double-column machines below 6 meters the machine thermal displacement can be held within 0.03mm, using environment thermal displacement compensation. Spindle run-out is stated as within 5μm.
