Hartford MW-843 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Hartford MW-843 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Hartford or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

Thirty tonnes on an eight-metre table: the Hartford MW-843 is the largest MW moving-crossbeam double-column machining center. The table is 8,000 x 3,000 mm (315.0 x 118.1 in) and rated for 30,000 kg (66,138 lb). X travel is 8,000 mm (315.0 in) and Y travel 4,300 mm (169.3 in).

Beyond this size Hartford changes the concept. Its MCW machines move the columns along a fixed floor table and start at 8,000 mm of X; the MCW-8550 lists a load per square metre instead of a total table load. The MW-843 is therefore the largest machine in the range on which the workpiece itself travels, and 30,000 kg is the ceiling for that layout.

Everything above the table is shared with the smaller MW models: crossbeam travel in W of 1,200 mm (1,500 mm or 1,800 mm optional), ram travel in Z of 1,000 mm (1,200 mm optional), a #50 spindle with gear drive at 6,000 / 8,000 rpm or hybrid drive at 10,000 rpm, and motors of 18.5 / 22 kW or 30 / 35 kW.

The automatic head system covers a universal head, a 90 degree head and an extension head. Each head magazine has its own moving door, and Hartford notes that additional head magazines are available.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 30,000 kg (66,138 lb) table load, the highest of the MW series
  • 8,000 x 3,000 mm (315.0 x 118.1 in) table with 4,300 mm (169.3 in) of Y travel
  • Moving crossbeam with twin ballscrews and twin servo motors
  • Universal, 90 degree and extension heads with automatic change
  • #50 gear spindle at 6,000 / 8,000 rpm or hybrid spindle at 10,000 rpm

Limitations

  • Moving 30 tonnes of workpiece plus table limits acceleration; no rates are published
  • Motor options stop at 30 / 35 kW (Cont. / 30 min)
  • Z travel of 1,000 mm, or 1,200 mm
  • For longer parts Hartford's MCW moving-column machines are the alternative

Best For

The heaviest moving-table work in Hartford's range Large diesel engine blocks, turbine casings and gear housings Long machine beds up to eight metres Five-face machining with automatic head change

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the maximum load of the Hartford MW-843?

30,000 kg (66,138 lb) average table load, on a table of 8,000 x 3,000 mm (315.0 x 118.1 in). It is the highest rating among Hartford's MW models.

02 What are the travels of the MW-843?

X 8,000 mm (315.0 in), Y 4,300 mm (169.3 in), Z 1,000 mm with 1,200 mm optional, and W 1,200 mm with 1,500 mm or 1,800 mm optional.

03 How does the MW-843 relate to the MCW series?

The MW-843 moves the table under a fixed pair of columns. The MCW machines move the columns along a fixed table; the MCW-8550, for example, has the same 8,000 mm (315.0 in) X travel with 5,500 mm (216.5 in) of Y.

04 How are heads stored on the MW-843?

In an independent head magazine with a protective cover. Each magazine has a moving door that opens only during head changeover to keep debris off the heads, and a hydraulic cylinder makes the change.
