Overview

The Hartford MCW-20650 is the largest machine in Hartford's MCW series, and by table size the largest in its lineup: a fixed table of 20,000 x 5,000 mm (787.4 x 196.9 in), with 20,000 mm (787.4 in) of X travel and 6,500 mm (255.9 in) of Y.

It is a Moving Crossbeam Moving Column Machining Center. The columns run the length of the table on an X axis driven by twin servo motors and twin reducers; the cross-beam rides up and down on a W axis with twin ballscrews; the ram adds Z travel. Standard vertical travels are 1,000 mm in Z and 1,800 mm in W, and the options go to 1,400 mm and 2,100 mm.

A table of that size rated at 3,000 kg/m² is the capacity in outline. What fills it in practice is heavy fabricated or cast structure: hull sections, large press frames, turbine foundations, tooling for composite wings and blades.

The cutting end is the same as on the smallest model. A #50 self-made spindle runs 6,000 or 8,000 rpm as a gear head or 10,000 rpm as an i-Tech hybrid, on 18.5 / 22 kW or the optional 30 / 35 kW. Automatic universal, 90 degree and extension heads can be used, and the chain type magazine holds 40 or 62 tools.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How big is the Hartford MCW-20650?

Its fixed table is 20,000 x 5,000 mm (787.4 x 196.9 in). X travel is 20,000 mm, Y travel 6,500 mm (255.9 in), Z travel 1,000 mm (up to 1,400 mm optional) and W travel 1,800 mm (2,100 mm optional).

02 What is the table load of the MCW-20650?

3,000 kg/m². The table is fixed and Hartford states the rating per square metre, so the allowable weight of a part depends on the area it rests on.

03 Does the MCW-20650 have a bigger spindle than the smaller MCW models?

No. All MCW models list the same #50 spindle options: gear head at 6,000 or 8,000 rpm, hybrid at 10,000 rpm, 18.5 / 22 kW standard and 30 / 35 kW optional.

04 What is the difference between the MCW-20650 and the MCW-20550?

Width. The MCW-20550 has a 20,000 x 4,000 mm (787.4 x 157.5 in) table and 5,500 mm (216.5 in) of Y travel; the MCW-20650 has a 5,000 mm wide table and 6,500 mm of Y.
