How much does the Hartford HSA-420EAY cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hartford HSA-420EAY that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Hartford HSA-420EAY combines a slim 4,000 x 1,800 mm (157.5 x 70.9 in) table with 2,800 mm (110.2 in) of Y travel. X travel is 4,000 mm (157.5 in) and the table is rated for 12,000 kg (26,455 lb). It is the narrowest four-metre model of the long-Y five-face HSA line.
Parts of this shape, such as machine beds, columns laid on their side and long gearbox housings, usually carry their important features on the long faces: guideway seats, bolt patterns, bearing bores. The EAY layout exists for those faces. An angular head travels down outside the table edge and works along four metres of part in one pass of the X axis.
Hartford drives X, Y and Z with direct-coupled servo motors and says this cuts transmission backlash by more than 30%. On a side-milling pass with a head, backlash in X shows up directly as a step in the surface, so the claim matters more here than on a plain three-axis job.
The spindle is a #50 gear head at 6,000 rpm (8,000 rpm optional) or a 10,000 rpm hybrid. Z travel is 1,000 mm, optionally 1,200 mm, and fifteen T-slots are provided.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 4,000 mm (157.5 in) of X travel with 2,800 mm (110.2 in) of Y on a slim table
- 12,000 kg (26,455 lb) table load
- Direct-drive servo motors on three axes
- Long-side machining of four-metre parts with an angular head
Limitations
- Table width is 1,800 mm, the narrowest at this length
- Whether X ballscrew support is standard on a four-metre model is not settled by Hartford's wording
- Y-axis ballscrew support is standard only on the x36 series

Frequently Asked Questions
01
4,000 x 1,800 mm (157.5 x 70.9 in), with fifteen T-slots and a 12,000 kg (26,455 lb) rating. The X travel equals the table length and the Y travel is 2,800 mm (110.2 in).
02
The HSA-420EA has 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of Y travel. The HSA-420EAY has 2,800 mm (110.2 in). Everything else in the two tables matches, including the 12,000 kg load and the 4,000 x 1,800 mm table.
03
Direct-drive servo motors on all three linear axes. Hartford states they reduce transmission backlash by more than 30%. The Z axis also has a nitrogen counterweight and runs on four linear guideways.
04
The HSA-423EAY, with a 4,000 x 2,200 mm (157.5 x 86.6 in) table and 3,100 mm (122.0 in) of Y travel. Load rating is 12,000 kg on both machines.
