Overview
At four metres by 2,200 mm, the Hartford HSA-423EAY is a general-purpose size in the long-Y five-face HSA range. The table measures 4,000 x 2,200 mm (157.5 x 86.6 in), Y travel is 3,100 mm (122.0 in), X travel 4,000 mm (157.5 in), and the load rating 12,000 kg (26,455 lb).
Two EAY models use this table. The HSA-427EAY has 3,500 mm (137.8 in) of Y. Which to take depends on tooling: standard-length cutters in a right-angle head are served by the 423EAY, while long boring bars pointing at the part from the side want the extra travel.
Hartford promotes two features of the line that bear on accuracy over time. One is what it calls AI intelligent technology, automatic tuning of parameters to maintain accuracy. The other is ballscrew support, which stops long screws from sagging. On this model Y support is an option, by the maker's statement that the x23 series does not have it as standard.
The #50 spindle comes as a gear head for 6,000 rpm, or 8,000 rpm at extra specification, or as a 10,000 rpm hybrid. Z travel is 1,000 mm (1,200 mm optional). The magazine holds 32, 40 or 60 tools.
