Overview

The Hartford Aero-636B is a six-metre gantry type 5-faced machining center with a 6,000 x 3,100 mm (236.2 x 122.0 in) table, 6,000 mm (236.2 in) of X travel and 3,600 mm (141.7 in) of Y travel. Among the four B models at this length it is the second narrowest.

Its closest relative is not a B model at all. The Aero-631G has the identical table but only 3,100 mm (122.0 in) of Y, so its spindle stops at the table edge. On the 636B the Y axis runs past the table on both sides, and that is what lets an angular head work down the long flanks of a part as wide as the table. For true five-face machining of full-size parts, this is the one of the pair to choose.

Hartford offers an optional spindle that it makes itself, the i-Tech hybrid, at 10,000 rpm. It is described with a double cooling cycle design, one circuit for the motor and one for the spindle, and a built-in motor rated at a maximum of 35 kW and 600 N-m. The standard spindle is a #50 gear head at 6,000 rpm, or 8,000 rpm as an option.

The table is rated at 5,000 kg/m². Z travel is 1,000 mm, with 1,200 mm optional, on four linear guideways.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 3,600 mm (141.7 in) of Y travel over a 3,100 mm wide table
  • 6,000 x 3,100 mm (236.2 x 122.0 in) table rated at 5,000 kg/m²
  • Optional hybrid spindle with separate cooling for motor and spindle
  • Z axis on four linear guideways

Limitations

  • Standard gear head is limited to 6,000 rpm
  • The hybrid spindle and the 1,200 mm Z travel are both options
  • Wider parts need the Aero-641B or Aero-646B

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the Aero-636B and the Aero-631G?

Y travel and magazine. The Aero-636B has 3,600 mm (141.7 in) of Y travel and S or A type magazines for up to 60 tools. The Aero-631G has 3,100 mm (122.0 in) of Y and a 32 or 40 tool magazine. The table is 6,000 x 3,100 mm on both.

02 What are the main figures of the Aero-636B?

Table 6,000 x 3,100 mm (236.2 x 122.0 in), X travel 6,000 mm, Y travel 3,600 mm (141.7 in), Z travel 1,000 mm or 1,200 mm, table load 5,000 kg/m², spindle taper #50.

03 How is the hybrid spindle of the Aero-636B cooled?

Hartford describes a double cooling cycle design for motor and spindle. The i-Tech hybrid spindle is optional, runs at 10,000 rpm and has a built-in motor with a stated maximum of 35 kW and 600 N-m.

04 Does the Aero-636B have a five-axis counterpart?

Yes. The Aero-636BL-5X shares the table and the X and Y travels and lists HSK-A63 and HSK-A100 spindles at 24,000 rpm and 12,000 rpm.
