How much does the Hartford HSA-220EAY cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hartford HSA-220EAY that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Hartford HSA-220EAY is a two-metre five-face double-column machining center whose Y axis reaches far outside its table. Y travel is 2,800 mm (110.2 in) while the table is 2,000 x 1,800 mm (78.7 x 70.9 in). X travel is 2,000 mm (78.7 in) and the table load 8,000 kg (17,637 lb).
The EAY models are the long-Y versions of Hartford's EA five-face machines. On the HSA-220EA, Y travel is 2,000 mm, close to the table width. Here the cross-beam is long enough for the spindle to stand clear of the part on either side with an angular head attached, and that turns a compact machine into one that can finish a cube-shaped workpiece on five sides without re-clamping.
Small does not mean light-duty. The spindle is a #50 with BT-50 shanks, the gear head runs 6,000 rpm (8,000 rpm optional), and Hartford states that its self-made spindle deflects within 5 μm. A 10,000 rpm hybrid spindle is the alternative. Z travel is 1,000 mm, or 1,200 mm.
Seven T-slots run across the short table. Since the machine is well under four metres long, ballscrew support on X is an option, and on the evidence of Hartford's text so is Y support, which is standard only on the x36 series.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 2,800 mm (110.2 in) of Y travel over a table only 1,800 mm wide
- Full five-side access to parts that fill the 2,000 x 1,800 mm table
- #50 spindle with stated deflection within 5 μm
- Automatic head change through a switching head compartment
Limitations
- 8,000 kg (17,637 lb) table load limits dense workpieces
- A wider gantry than the HSA-220EA for the same table
- Ballscrew support on X and on Y is optional at this size

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The Y travel. The HSA-220EAY has 2,800 mm (110.2 in) of Y where the HSA-220EA has 2,000 mm (78.7 in). Table, X travel, load rating, spindle and magazine are the same in both spec tables.
02
The table is 2,000 x 1,800 mm (78.7 x 70.9 in) with seven T-slots, rated for 8,000 kg (17,637 lb). Travels are X 2,000 mm, Y 2,800 mm (110.2 in) and Z 1,000 mm, with 1,200 mm of Z optional.
03
Yes, that is its purpose. It works with an automatic universal angular head taken from an automated switching head compartment, and the long Y travel lets the head come down outside the part on both sides of the table.
04
The gear head runs 6,000 rpm, with 8,000 rpm optional, and the hybrid spindle 10,000 rpm. Power is 18.5 / 22 kW (continuous / 30 min) with a 30 / 35 kW option. The taper is #50.
