How much does the Hartford HSA-220EA cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hartford HSA-220EA that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Hartford HSA-220EA is the smallest of the HSA five-face double-column machining centers: 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of travel in both X and Y over a 2,000 x 1,800 mm (78.7 x 70.9 in) table that carries 8,000 kg (17,637 lb). Hartford calls the type a Double Column 5 Faced Machining Center, and the side faces are reached with automatic angular heads that live in a switching head compartment.
Square travel is the point of this size. A part that fills the table can be reached from above everywhere, and Z travel of 1,000 mm (1,200 mm optional) matches the eight-metre machines of the family, so the short bed does not cost height. What the 220EA cannot do is drop an angular head beside a full-width part, because Y travel exceeds the table width only slightly. The HSA-220EAY keeps this table and stretches Y to 2,800 mm (110.2 in) for exactly that.
The spindle is a #50 taper taking BT-50 shanks, with CAT-50, DIN50 and BBT-50 listed as alternatives. A gear head runs 6,000 rpm, or 8,000 rpm as an option, and the table also lists a 10,000 rpm hybrid spindle. Motor power is 18.5 / 22 kW, with 30 / 35 kW optional. The magazine holds 32 tools, or 40 or 60.
At two metres of X the ballscrew support is an extra: Hartford states it is standard on models above 5 meters and optional below 4 meters.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Square X/Y travel of 2,000 mm (78.7 in) over a 2,000 x 1,800 mm table
- Z travel of 1,000 mm, or 1,200 mm optionally, the same as on the largest machines of the line
- Automatic angular heads with a switching head compartment and vertical and horizontal tool change
- #50 gear head at 6,000 rpm (8,000 rpm optional) or a 10,000 rpm hybrid spindle
Limitations
- Table load stops at 8,000 kg (17,637 lb), the lowest rating among the EA models
- Y travel is barely wider than the table, which restricts side-face work on full-width parts
- X-axis ballscrew support is optional at this length, by Hartford's own statement

Frequently Asked Questions
01
X and Y are both 2,000 mm (78.7 in). Z is 1,000 mm, with 1,200 mm as an option. The table measures 2,000 x 1,800 mm (78.7 x 70.9 in) and is rated for 8,000 kg (17,637 lb).
02
With automatic angular heads. Hartford describes a complete angular head package, an automatic universal angular head and an automated switching head compartment combined with a vertical and horizontal tool change system. The top face is cut with the vertical spindle and the four sides with a head mounted.
03
Y travel. Both use the 2,000 x 1,800 mm table with an 8,000 kg rating. The HSA-220EAY has 2,800 mm (110.2 in) of Y travel against 2,000 mm (78.7 in) here, which leaves room for an angular head beside the part.
04
A #50 gear head at 6,000 rpm, or 8,000 rpm optionally, and a 10,000 rpm hybrid spindle. The motor is rated 18.5 / 22 kW (continuous / 30 min), with 30 / 35 kW as an option. The standard shank is BT-50.
