How much does the Hartford HSA-428EA cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hartford HSA-428EA that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Hartford HSA-428EA is the heavy four-metre model of the five-face HSA line. Its 4,000 x 2,500 mm (157.5 x 98.4 in) table is rated for 18,000 kg (39,683 lb), half as much again as the 12,000 kg (26,455 lb) of the HSA-427EA, and travel is 4,000 mm (157.5 in) in X by 2,800 mm (110.2 in) in Y.
This is the size at which the line changes character. Below it, the four-metre models are light machines with a choice of widths. From here upward every model has a table at least 2,500 mm wide and a rating that keeps climbing with length: the five-metre HSA-528EA carries 20,000 kg (44,092 lb) on the same width.
Readers comparing it with the HSA-428, which has no EA suffix, will find the same table and the same 18,000 kg. The EA is the five-face version: it adds the automatic universal head, the head switching compartment and a standard Z travel of 1,000 mm (1,200 mm optional).
Spindles are #50. The table lists a gear head at 6,000 rpm, or 8,000 rpm, and a hybrid built-in spindle at 10,000 rpm, with 18.5 / 22 kW or 30 / 35 kW. Hartford does not include the x28 EA models among those with Y-axis ballscrew support as standard.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 18,000 kg (39,683 lb) table load on a four-metre machine
- 4,000 x 2,500 mm (157.5 x 98.4 in) table with 2,800 mm (110.2 in) of Y travel
- Automatic universal head with a switching compartment for five-face machining
- Columns joined to the base over 1,250 mm, by Hartford's description
Limitations
- Y travel exceeds the table width by a modest margin; the HSA-428EAY has 3,600 mm (141.7 in)
- Y-axis ballscrew support is not listed as standard for x28 EA models
- Top speed is 10,000 rpm, so small-tool finishing is slow compared with a high-speed spindle

Frequently Asked Questions
01
18,000 kg (39,683 lb), on a table of 4,000 x 2,500 mm (157.5 x 98.4 in) with fifteen T-slots. That is the highest rating among the four-metre EA models.
02
Load and width. The HSA-427EA has a 4,000 x 2,200 mm (157.5 x 86.6 in) table for 12,000 kg (26,455 lb) and 2,700 mm (106.3 in) of Y travel. The HSA-428EA has a 2,500 mm wide table, 18,000 kg and 2,800 mm of Y.
03
Yes. The HSA-428EAY has 3,600 mm (141.7 in) of Y travel over the same 4,000 x 2,500 mm table and the same 18,000 kg rating, which gives an angular head more room at the sides of the part.
04
Z travel is 1,000 mm, with 1,200 mm as the option. Spindle power is 18.5 / 22 kW on the continuous / 30 min basis, and 30 / 35 kW is offered as an option. The spindle taper is #50.
