How much does the Röders RXP500DS cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Röders RXP500DS that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Röders RXP500DS puts a rotary-swivel unit with a 250 mm (9.8 in) table into the RXP500 base. The machining range becomes 450 mm x 455 mm x 240 mm (17.7 x 17.9 x 9.4 in), the swivelling range is +/-115 degrees and the rotation range is listed as almost unlimited.
What a buyer gives up against the 3-axis machine is load. The 5-axis table takes 60 kg (132 lb), and the distance from spindle nose to table is 285 mm (11.2 in). What is gained is access to five sides of a small mould insert or electrode in one clamping, with a swivel that goes past the horizontal in both directions.
Röders supports the C-axis on both sides and puts optical encoders in the rotary axes, stating positioning accuracies of 2 arcseconds for the 5-axis RXP machines. Direct drives are used in all axes, and the motors are temperature-controlled. For long finishing programs on hardened inserts, those are the features that keep the part where the control thinks it is.
The spindle is the same as on the RXP500: 42,000 rpm, 14 kW (18.8 hp), HSK E40 and a maximum tool diameter of 16 mm. The linear changer holds 21 tools and a chain changer with 35 or more places is optional. With the swivel unit the machine weighs about 6.5 t; the required space stays at W 2,710 mm x L 2,300 mm x H 2,350 mm. An integrated chuck in the table is an option for pallet work.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- +/-115 degrees swivelling range and almost unlimited rotation on a 250 mm (9.8 in) table
- Same 42,000 rpm, 14 kW (18.8 hp) HSK E40 spindle as the 3-axis RXP500
- C-axis supported on both sides; optical encoders in the rotary axes with 2 arcseconds positioning accuracy
- Needs the same W 2,710 mm x L 2,300 mm x H 2,350 mm as the 3-axis machine
- Integrated chuck available as an option
Limitations
- Workpiece weight drops to 60 kg (132 lb)
- 285 mm (11.2 in) between spindle nose and table limits part height plus tool length
- Tools no larger than 16 mm in diameter
- Feeds up to 42,000 mm/min, lower than the 60,000 mm/min of the RXP601DSH

Frequently Asked Questions
01
450 mm x 455 mm x 240 mm (17.7 x 17.9 x 9.4 in). The 3-axis RXP500 lists 500 mm x 455 mm x 240 mm, so the rotary-swivel unit costs a little of the first axis and nothing of the other two.
02
The swivelling range is +/-115 degrees and the rotation range is almost unlimited. Röders states that the swivel direction of the A-axis is perpendicular to the X-axis movement for dynamic decoupling.
03
60 kg (132 lb), on a table 250 mm in diameter. The RXP500DSC variant uses a 200 mm table with a 30 kg limit, so the DS is the version for the heavier of the small parts.
04
The linear changer has 21 places. A chain changer with 35 or more places is optional and can be loaded during machining. An integrated measuring laser is part of the tool changer row in the technical data.
