Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Fryer VB-80 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Fryer's VB-80 gives 80 in (2,032 mm) of X travel on an open box way machining center. Its table is 30 x 93 in (762 x 2,362 mm), rated 5,000 lb (2,268 kg), and the standard Y and Z travels are 35 in (889 mm) and 26 in (660 mm).
Both of those can be lengthened. The options sheet lists an extended 40 in (1,016 mm) Y travel for the VB-80 and VB-100, which moves the spindle centre out to 41 in (1,041 mm) from the column, and an extended 34 in (864 mm) Z travel. The standard Z is the shortest in the VB series, below the 28 in (711 mm) of the VB-60, so tall workpieces or a rotary table with a large part will usually call for the Z extension.
The same 80 in stroke is available in Fryer's enclosed MC-80B. The two have the same table size and the same 600 ipm (15.2 m/min) rapids. They differ in what surrounds the table and in weight: the VB-80 is open and weighs 18,500 lb (8,392 kg), the MC-80B is enclosed and weighs 23,000 lb (10,433 kg). An open table accepts a part that overhangs the ends or stands taller than a door frame would allow.
Spindle rows follow the series. A 30 hp (22.4 kW) peak motor turns a CAT 40 or BT-40 spindle at 60 - 8,000 rpm, with a 50 taper spindle, a 2-speed gear box and a 40 hp (29.8 kW) motor as options. The cutting feed rate reaches 600 ipm (15.2 m/min) and peak axis thrust is 4,400 lb.
