Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Fryer TC-240V that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Fryer TC-240V is a very long vertical traveling column machining center: it moves its column 240 in (6,096 mm) along a fixed 240 x 24 in (6,096 x 610 mm) table. At this length Fryer changes the X axis drive from a ballscrew to rack and pinion, and the table load rises to 14,000 lb (6,350 kg).
Rack and pinion is the usual answer to very long axes, because a ballscrew of that length would whip at speed. The trade shows in the accuracy rows. Positioning accuracy is +/- 0.0003 in (0.0076 mm) and repeatability +/- 0.00015 in (0.0038 mm), each a step wider than on the ballscrew models up to the TC-160V. The rapid stays at 1,000 ipm (25.4 m/min), so the long stroke is covered quickly.
A table of this length is rarely used for one part at a time. Divided into zones, it can hold a row of fixtures for different jobs, or several long extrusions end to end, and the operator can work at one end while the spindle is busy at the other. Fryer offers the series open style with semi-guarding or fully enclosed, and a full machine guard for the 240" - 320" models is on the options sheet.
Operating width is 375 in (9,525 mm), depth 138 in (3,505 mm), and the machine weighs 46,000 lb (20,866 kg). Heidenhain tape scale feedback for X is listed for models with 160" - 240" of travel. The spindle is the CAT 40, 30 hp (22.4 kW) peak unit of the series, with 24 tools and the option of 50 taper.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 240 in (6,096 mm) of X travel at 1,000 ipm (25.4 m/min) rapid
- Fixed 240 x 24 in (6,096 x 610 mm) table rated 14,000 lb (6,350 kg)
- Rack and pinion X drive suited to the long axis
- Several work zones on one table with dividers
- Tape scale feedback for the X axis is available
Limitations
- Positioning accuracy of +/- 0.0003 in (0.0076 mm), wider than the +/- 0.0002 in (0.0051 mm) of the TC-160V
- Needs 375 x 138 in (9,525 x 3,505 mm) of floor
- Y and Z travels are 24 in (610 mm) unless extended to 32 in (813 mm)
- Table is 24 in (610 mm) deep whatever the length
