Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Fryer VB-120 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Fryer VB-120 is a different machine from the three smaller VB models, not a longer version of them. X travel is 120 in (3,048 mm), but the telling figures are elsewhere: a 40 x 126 in (1,016 x 3,200 mm) table, 40 in (1,016 mm) of Z travel, peak axis thrust of 10,800 lb and a weight of 32,000 lb (14,515 kg). The VB-100 below it weighs 20,500 lb (9,299 kg) and has 4,400 lb of thrust.
Height is the first gain. Spindle nose to table opens to 44 in (1,118 mm), against 30 in on the VB-100, so die sets, gearbox housings and tall weldments fit under the head with tooling to spare. The second gain is depth: 40 in (1,016 mm) of Y as standard, and 50 in (1,270 mm) with the extended travel option, which puts the spindle centre 51 in (1,295 mm) from the column.
Table load rises to 6,500 lb (2,948 kg). Spread over a 126 in (3,200 mm) table that is still a figure to respect, and heavy parts should be supported along their length.
Feeds remain those of a large open machine, 400 ipm (10.2 m/min) for both rapid traverse and the cutting feed limit. The spindle rows are common to the series, CAT 40 or BT-40 at 60 - 8,000 rpm with 30 hp (22.4 kW) peak. On a machine with this much thrust the 50 taper spindle at 6,000 rpm and the 24 station 50 taper changer, which takes tools up to 33 lbs., are the options most likely to be ordered. Operating space is 260 x 120 in (6,604 x 3,048 mm).
