Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Colchester CB-1300 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
With an 1,800 x 450 mm (70.9 x 17.7 in) table and 700 mm (27.6 in) of Z travel, the Colchester CB-1300 is the middle model of Colchester's CNC bed mills and the first with real height under the spindle. X travel is 1,300 mm (51.2 in) and Y travel 600 mm (23.6 in).
The extra Z is the difference a user notices. Against the 510 mm (20.1 in) of the CB-1000, it leaves room for a tall fixture, a dividing head with tailstock or a deep component with a long drill above it. The table is also longer than the X travel, 1,800 mm (70.9 in) against 1,300 mm (51.2 in), so a long workpiece can overhang the travel at one end and be machined in two settings.
The spindle does not grow with the machine. It is the same ISO 40 unit as on the smaller model, with a 3.7 kW (5.0 hp) inverter motor, 3,600 rpm and heavy duty back gears. On a table this size that is a clear statement of purpose: the CB-1300 is for accurate, unhurried machining of large parts, and not for high metal removal. Quill travel is 140 mm (5.5 in).
Colchester describes hardened and ground slideways, table and T-slots, box ways on Y and Z with a dovetail on X, and steel covers protecting the Y and Z ways. Programming is through the Fanuc 0i-MF Plus with Manual Guide i, with the Siemens 828D and ShopMill as the alternative. No tool changer, table load or machine weight is given on the page.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The table size is 1,800 x 450 mm (70.9 x 17.7 in), which Colchester repeats in its description of the model. Travels are 1,300 mm (51.2 in) in X, 600 mm (23.6 in) in Y and 700 mm (27.6 in) in Z, with 140 mm (5.5 in) of quill travel.
02
No. Both use an ISO 40 spindle with a 3.7 kW (5.0 hp) inverter motor and a speed of 3,600 rpm. The CB-1000 is the smaller machine, with 1,070 mm (42.1 in) of X travel and 510 mm (20.1 in) of Z.
03
The X slideway is a dovetail and the Y and Z slideways are box ways. Colchester says the slideways and gibs are coated with Turcite-B, the XYZ slideways, table and T-slots are hardened and ground, and the Y and Z slideways are protected by steel covers.
04
The table lists the Fanuc 0i-MF Plus with Manual Guide i, and a Siemens 828D with ShopMill as the option. Both offer conversational programming at the machine.
