Overview

The Fryer MC-24L is the compact entry to the MC-L linear way machining centers: 24 x 16 x 17 in (610 x 406 x 432 mm) of travel on a floor area of 83 x 76 in (2,108 x 1,930 mm). It is a small machine with the fast hardware of the series, a 10,000 rpm Big Plus CAT 40 spindle, a 30 station high speed arm type tool changer and 1,450 ipm (36.8 m/min) rapids on all three axes.

Short travels and fast axes go together well. On parts that fit a 16.5 x 27.5 in (419 x 699 mm) table most of the cycle is tool changes and short positioning moves, and that is where a 1.5 seconds tool change and roller type linear ways pay back. The cutting feed rate reaches 1,200 ipm (30.5 m/min).

The spindle motor is 20 hp (14.9 kW) peak with 100 ft-lb (136 Nm) at 350 rpm. That is the smaller of the two motors in the series; the MC-45L and MC-60L carry 30 hp (22.4 kW). For aluminium, plastics and light steel work in this envelope it is ample, and faster spindles of 12,000 rpm and 15,000 rpm in-line, or 21,000 rpm and 30,000 rpm electric spindles in a smaller 30-size taper, are on the options sheet.

Limits to note: the table has 3 T-slots and is rated 2,000 lb (907 kg), the door opens 28 in (711 mm), and spindle nose to table is 21 to 4 in (533 - 102 mm). The machine weighs 7,900 lb (3,583 kg) and stands 102 in (2,591 mm) tall in operation.
