Overview

The VH-780 CNC is the largest of the Ganesh vertical/horizontal CNC bed mills, with a 102.3 x 27.5 in (2,600 x 700 mm) table, 78.7 in (2,000 mm) of X travel and a table load of 6,615 lb (3,000 kg). At 28,660 lb (13,000 kg) net it is a machine for big, heavy parts that would otherwise go to a horizontal boring mill.

Y travel is 47.2 in (1,200 mm) and Z travel 39.3 in (1,000 mm). The cutting envelope the maker gives is 78.7 in (2,000 mm) long and 29.5 in (750 mm) in both width and height. The distance from the vertical spindle center to the slide surface is 30.7 in (780 mm), and that is the measure of how far across a part the vertical spindle can reach.

Spindle hardware is the same as on the VH-650B CNC: 15 HP on each spindle, 45 - 1,500 rpm in 18 speeds, NT50 or BT50 taper. So the reason to choose this machine is capacity, not cutting power. Against the 4,409 lb (2,000 kg) table load of the VH-650B CNC it carries half as much again, and it adds length in X.

The horizontal spindle nose can be up to 39.3 in (1,000 mm) from the table, with its center 15.7 in (400 mm) from the table edge, and the vertical nose up to 31.8 in (810 mm) above it. Axis motors are 3.8 HP (3.0 kW) and feeds and rapids run 1 - 236 ipm (30 - 6,000 mm/min). Control is a Fanuc OiMF with a 10.4 in display. Allow 231.4 x 175.1 x 125.1 in (5,880 x 4,450 x 3,180 mm) for the machine, and plan rigging for a gross weight of 29,762 lb (13,500 kg).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 102.3 x 27.5 in (2,600 x 700 mm) table rated for 6,615 lb (3,000 kg)
  • 78.7 in (2,000 mm) of X, 47.2 in (1,200 mm) of Y and 39.3 in (1,000 mm) of Z travel
  • Vertical and horizontal 15 HP spindles with NT50 or BT50 taper
  • 30.7 in (780 mm) from vertical spindle center to slide surface

Limitations

  • Spindle power is 15 HP, no more than the smaller VH-650B CNC
  • Speeds are 18 steps from 45 to 1,500 rpm
  • Rapid traverse is at most 236 ipm (6,000 mm/min) over 78.7 in (2,000 mm) of X
  • Needs 231.4 x 175.1 in of floor and weighs 28,660 lb (13,000 kg) net
  • No automatic tool changer in the specification

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the table size and load of the VH-780 CNC?

The table is 102.3 x 27.5 in (2,600 x 700 mm) with 5 T-slots of 20 mm width on 125 mm centers, and the table load is 6,615 lb (3,000 kg). Axis travels are 78.7 in (2,000 mm), 47.2 in (1,200 mm) and 39.3 in (1,000 mm) in X, Y and Z.

02 How much of the travel is usable for cutting?

Expand Machinery lists a cutting length of 78.7 in (2,000 mm), a cutting width of 29.5 in (750 mm) and a cutting height of 29.5 in (750 mm). Width and height are smaller than the Y and Z travels of 47.2 in (1,200 mm) and 39.3 in (1,000 mm), so size the part against the cutting figures.

03 What spindles does it have?

A vertical and a horizontal spindle, each 15 HP with 45 - 1,500 rpm in 18 speeds and an NT50 or BT50 taper. The vertical spindle nose is 0 - 31.8 in (0 - 810 mm) from the table; the horizontal spindle nose is 0 - 39.3 in (0 - 1,000 mm) from it. An air power drawbar is standard.

04 What does installation involve?

The machine measures 231.4 x 175.1 x 125.1 in (5,880 x 4,450 x 3,180 mm) in length, width and height. Net weight is 28,660 lb (13,000 kg) and gross weight 29,762 lb (13,500 kg), so floor capacity and rigging need to be planned before delivery.
