Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Fryer VB-160 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
At 160 in (4,064 mm) of X travel the Fryer VB-160 is the longest vertical machining center in the VB series. The table is 40 x 165 in (1,016 x 4,191 mm) of T-slotted surface, and the machine weighs 37,000 lb (16,783 kg). It is the VB-120 with a longer bed: the same 40 in (1,016 mm) of Y and Z, the same 10,800 lb of peak axis thrust, the same 6,500 lb (2,948 kg) table load.
A table of that length is as much a production tool as a capacity figure. It can hold one very long part, such as a trailer rail, a crane beam or a mast section. Or it can be divided into zones, each with its own fixture, so that the spindle works in one zone while finished parts are unloaded from another. Nothing in the open design stands between the operator and the idle end of the table.
Installation needs planning on the same scale. Operating dimensions are 300 x 120 x 120 in (7,620 x 3,048 x 3,048 mm). The machine ships at 180 x 105 x 105 in (4,572 x 2,667 x 2,667 mm) after disassembly. Supply is 40 A at 380-500 VAC, 3 phase, in the standard configuration.
Performance figures are unchanged from the VB-120. Rapids and cutting feed top out at 400 ipm (10.2 m/min), positioning accuracy is +/- 0.0003 in (0.0076 mm), and the CAT 40 or BT-40 spindle delivers 30 hp (22.4 kW) peak at 60 - 8,000 rpm. Fryer's features list for the series reads travel up to 160" x 50", the second figure being the extended Y travel option.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
X travel is 160 in (4,064 mm) on a table 165 in (4,191 mm) long and 40 in (1,016 mm) wide. Because the machine has no enclosure, a longer part can overhang the table ends and be machined in more than one position.
02
In Fryer's table, yes. The VB-120 has 120 in (3,048 mm) of X, a 40 x 126 in (1,016 x 3,200 mm) table and weighs 32,000 lb (14,515 kg). The VB-160 has 160 in (4,064 mm) of X, a 40 x 165 in (1,016 x 4,191 mm) table and weighs 37,000 lb (16,783 kg). Y, Z, thrust, table load and spindle rows are identical.
03
Operating dimensions are 300 x 120 x 120 in (7,620 x 3,048 x 3,048 mm) and shipping dimensions 180 x 105 x 105 in (4,572 x 2,667 x 2,667 mm). The weight is 37,000 lb (16,783 kg). Air demand is 5 cfm (142 L/min) at 90 psi (6.2 bar).
