How much does the Fryer MB-16Q cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Fryer MB-16Q that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Fryer MB-16Q is the large model of the MB-Q toolroom bed mills. Travels are 60 x 25 x 24 in (1,524 x 635 x 610 mm), the table is 18 x 70 in (457 x 1,778 mm), and at 8,800 lb (3,992 kg) it weighs nearly half as much again as the MB-14Q. This is a quill-head mill sized for long shafts, press brake tooling, machine frames and other parts that do not fit a knee mill.
Several rows of Fryer's table change for this model only. The ballscrews are 1.57 in (40 mm) where the MB-14Q uses 1.26 in (32 mm). The table has 5 T-slots instead of 3. The quill is 4.330 in (110 mm) in diameter, and spindle nose to table opens up to 30 in (762 mm), which leaves room for a tall part or an angle plate under the head.
Space is the thing to check first. With the table at the ends of its stroke the machine occupies 174 in (4,420 mm) of width, and it stands 113 in (2,870 mm) tall. Table height is 36 in (914 mm), so heavier parts will come in by crane; the table accepts 2,950 lb (1,338 kg).
The drive train is unchanged from the smaller models. A 10 hp (7.5 kW) peak motor and 2 speed gear box give 238 ft-lb (323 Nm) in low gear, and rapids are 400 ipm (10.2 m/min). On a 60 in (1,524 mm) stroke that power level means long parts are machined patiently. Manual handles, the 6 in (152 mm) manual quill and Fryer's manual, semi-CNC and full-CNC modes are all retained.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 60 in (1,524 mm) of X travel on an 18 x 70 in (457 x 1,778 mm) table with 5 T-slots
- 25 in (635 mm) of Y travel with the spindle centre 25 in from the column
- Up to 30 in (762 mm) between spindle nose and table
- 1.57 in (40 mm) ballscrews, larger than the 1.26 in (32 mm) screws of the MB-14Q
- Keeps the manual handles and manual quill of the smaller MB-Q models
Limitations
- Operating width is 174 in (4,420 mm) and height 113 in (2,870 mm)
- Spindle power stays at 10 hp (7.5 kW) peak despite the larger envelope
- Table load of 2,950 lb (1,338 kg) is modest for a 70 in (1,778 mm) table
- No tool changer rows in the table; a 9 tool rack and power drawbar are options

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Size and structure. The MB-14Q has 40 x 20 x 20 in (1,016 x 508 x 508 mm) of travel, 1.26 in (32 mm) ballscrews and weighs 6,000 lb (2,722 kg). The MB-16Q has 60 x 25 x 24 in (1,524 x 635 x 610 mm) of travel, 1.57 in (40 mm) ballscrews, 5 T-slots and a 4.330 in (110 mm) quill.
02
Fryer gives operating dimensions of 174 x 92 x 113 in (4,420 x 2,337 x 2,870 mm). The machine weighs 8,800 lb (3,992 kg) and ships at 72 x 92 x 89 in (1,829 x 2,337 x 2,261 mm) after some disassembly.
03
Not in the base table. The options sheet lists a table mounted splash guard with doors and a safety switch for the MB-16, and a full machine guard for the MB-16 that Fryer says allows high coolant flow and heavy chip removal with no floor mess.
04
Rapid traverse is 400 ipm (10.2 m/min) and cutting feed runs from 0.001 to 300 ipm. Positioning accuracy is +/- 0.0002 in (0.0051 mm) and repeatability +/- 0.0001 in (0.0025 mm). Peak axis thrust is 4,400 lb.
