Feeler QMP-40 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Feeler QMP-40 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Feeler or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

At 1,020 mm (40.2 in) of X travel the Feeler QMP-40 is the largest machine in the QMP series, and the only metre-class Feeler vertical with 48 m/min (1,890 ipm) rapids on X and Y. The VMX-1020 and VMP-40, which share its travels, both list 40 m/min.

On a long table that difference adds up. A fixture with parts spread across 1,150 mm, or two fixtures run pendulum-style, involves long X moves between every operation, and those moves are pure lost time. The QMP-40 is the model to look at when the parts are many and the cuts are short.

The remaining figures are those of a solid mid-size No.40 machine. Y travel is 520 mm (20.5 in) and Z is 505 mm (19.9 in). The table is 1,150 x 520 mm (45.3 x 20.5 in) and takes 800 kg (1,764 lb). The spindle is a 10,000 rpm belt type unit with a 7/24 No.40 taper, the magazine holds 24 tools, and Z rapids at 30 m/min (1,181 ipm).

Feeler presents the series as production equipment and names several ways to tailor it: a 20,000 rpm spindle for small-diameter tools and high-speed cutting, an ultrasonic cutting system for brittle or high-hardness materials, and an automatic pallet changer system. The spec table shows pallet-changer columns for the smaller sizes only, not for this model, so ask whether one is offered at this length.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 48 m/min (1,890 ipm) X and Y rapids over 1,020 mm of X travel
  • 1,150 x 520 mm table rated for 800 kg (1,764 lb)
  • 10,000 rpm No.40 belt type spindle with 24 tools
  • Series options include a 20,000 rpm spindle and ultrasonic cutting

Limitations

  • Z travel is 505 mm (19.9 in), less than the 560 mm of the VMX-1020
  • Z rapid of 30 m/min does not match the X and Y rate
  • No pallet-changer column for this size in Feeler's table
  • Standard spindle speed is 10,000 rpm and no power figure is published

Best For

Pendulum machining with two fixtures on one table Long fixture plates with many parts and short cuts Production No.40 work up to a metre in X Parts up to 800 kg that need fast positioning

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the specifications of the Feeler QMP-40?

Travels of 1,020 x 520 x 505 mm (40.2 x 20.5 x 19.9 in), a 1,150 x 520 mm table rated 800 kg (1,764 lb), a 10,000 rpm spindle with 7/24 Taper No.40, rapids of 48/48/30 m/min on X/Y/Z, and 24 tools.

02 How does the QMP-40 compare with the VMX-1020?

The VMX-1020 has a 12,000 rpm direct-drive spindle, 560 mm of Z and X and Y rapids of 40 m/min. The QMP-40 has a 10,000 rpm belt type spindle, 505 mm of Z and 48 m/min on X and Y. Table size, load and tool count are the same.

03 What type of spindle drive does it use?

Belt type. Feeler states that the QMP-32 and QMP-40 feature 10,000 rpm belt type spindles. The series page gives no power, torque or gear-ratio information.

04 Is an ultrasonic or high-speed spindle available?

Feeler says the QMP series can be equipped with an ultrasonic cutting system for brittle or high-hardness materials and with a 20,000 rpm spindle for small-diameter tools. Both are described as options for the series, not as part of the QMP-40 base machine.
