Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Feeler FDM-3228 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Feeler FDM-3228 is the shortest machine in the FDM series of mould machining centers, and the only one with 3,200 mm (126.0 in) of X travel. Its table is 3,000 mm (118.1 in) long and 2,600 mm (102.4 in) wide, and Y travel is 2,700 mm (106.3 in), with 3,300 mm (129.9 in) in brackets.
Those proportions are unusual. The table is almost as wide as it is long, which suits moulds and mould bases that are large in both directions: tools for big housings, tubs, panels and containers. Feeler says the series is designed for precision mold makers and is ideal for large molds and mold bases.
It also marks where the FDM takes over from the SVW series. The SVW-3225 offers the same table length on a table 2,000 mm wide and carries 12 ton. This machine starts at 12 ton as listed and 16 ton in brackets, on a table 2,600 mm wide.
The table runs on four guideways in a symmetrical layout, which the maker says gives wide load-bearing surfaces. X and Y rapid at 15 m/min (591 ipm) and Z at 12 m/min (472 ipm). The spindle is listed at 6,000 rpm on BT/DIN/CAT 50, with 4,000-8,000 rpm and #40 in brackets. Z travel is 800 mm (31.5 in), or 1,000-1,400 mm bracketed, and the magazine holds 24 tools with 32 to 90 as the bracketed range.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Near-square 3,000 × 2,600 mm (118.1 × 102.4 in) table
- Y travel of 2,700 mm (106.3 in), or 3,300 mm (129.9 in) in brackets
- 12 ton load, with 16 ton as the bracketed figure
- X and Y rapids of 15 m/min (591 ipm)
- Four-rail symmetrical table guideways
Limitations
- Shortest X travel in the FDM series at 3,200 mm (126.0 in)
- Lowest table load in the series
- Spindle power, torque and machine weight are not on the series page

Frequently Asked Questions
01
X travel is 3,200 mm (126.0 in), Y travel 2,700 mm (106.3 in) with 3,300 mm in brackets, and Z travel 800 mm (31.5 in) with 1,000-1,400 mm in brackets. The table is 3,000 × 2,600 mm (118.1 × 102.4 in).
02
Feeler's table does not define them. Elsewhere on its tables brackets mark an alternative or optional version, so the 3,300 mm Y travel, the 16 ton load and the 1,000-1,400 mm Z travel are best treated as options to be confirmed in the quotation, not as standard equipment.
03
Mould work. Feeler states that the FDM Series is designed for precision mold makers, ideal for large molds and mold bases, and describes a cast iron structure with a box-type base and reinforced rib design.
04
Length. The FDM-4228 has 4,200 mm of X travel, a 4,000 mm table and a load of 15 (21) ton. The FDM-3228 has 3,200 mm, a 3,000 mm table and 12 (16) ton. Table width, Y, Z, spindle, rapids and magazine rows are the same.
