Overview

Long shafts are the job of the Biglia B1250, the long-bed member of the B750/B1250 series in its plain two-axis form. Z travel is 1,310 mm (51.6 in) and the maximum machining length 1,195 mm (47.0 in) with a Ø 315 mm chuck, on the same 305 mm X travel as the shorter B750.

Only ASA 8" spindles are listed for this bed. The larger one takes 93/100 mm bar through a 106/111 mm bore, runs at 3,000 rpm and is rated 30-38 kW with 800-1,014 Nm, carrying a 400 mm chuck. The table marks the smaller one, for 80 mm bar at 3,200 rpm with 15-22 kW and 398-700 Nm, as a spindle option. Both sets of figures are S1-S3 ratings. There is no 4,500 rpm spindle here as there is on the B750, which says something about the intended work: big, slow, heavy cuts on bar and forgings, not small fast parts.

The tailstock differs from the B750 as well. Standard on the B1250 is a tailstock with a 115 mm hydraulic quill and 150 mm of quill stroke, taking an MT 5 centre. It has no drive of its own: the turret carriage tows it into place along the Z-axis, over 1,310 mm. The servo B-axis tailstock is an option on this model, listed with 1,140 mm of positioning at 15 m/min. An automatic steady-rest for shafts up to 240 mm in diameter is offered on the B1250 only.

This base version has no driven tools. With swarf conveyor it weighs 7,850 kg and measures 562 x 219 cm, 249 cm high.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,310 mm (51.6 in) of Z travel and 1,195 mm (47.0 in) of machining length with a Ø 315 mm chuck
  • Main spindle with 800-1,014 Nm and 30-38 kW for 93/100 mm bar
  • Tailstock with a 115 mm hydraulic quill and 150 mm stroke as the standard arrangement
  • Optional automatic steady-rest for shafts up to 240 mm in diameter, offered on the B1250 only
  • Optional servo B-axis tailstock with 1,140 mm of positioning

Limitations

  • Top spindle speed is 3,000 rpm, or 3,200 rpm with the optional 80 mm bar spindle
  • No driven tools, C-axis or Y-axis on this version
  • The standard tailstock is positioned by the turret carriage, so moving it occupies the Z-axis
  • At 562 cm long it needs more floor than the 528 cm B750

Best For

Shafts and axles up to 1,195 mm long Heavy turning of large bar and forgings at low speed Slender shafts supported by a steady-rest Turning-only work on a 315 or 400 mm chuck

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How long a part can the B1250 turn?

Biglia gives a maximum machining length of 1,195 mm, with a footnote that the figure applies with a Ø 315 mm chuck. Z-axis stroke is 1,310 mm and X-axis stroke 305 mm. The brochure describes the machine as particularly suitable for long shafts.

02 What tailstock does the B1250 have?

Two types are listed. The standard one has a hydraulic quill of 115 mm diameter with a 150 mm stroke and an MT 5 taper, and is positioned by the turret-holding carriage along the Z-axis over 1,310 mm. A servo-driven B-axis tailstock, standard on the B750, is an option here, with 1,140 mm of positioning, a 15 m/min rapid and MT 5/4. A rotating tailstock built into the quill is also optional.

03 Which spindles can the B1250 be ordered with?

Both are ASA 8". The 93/100 mm bar spindle has a 106/111 mm bore, 150 mm bearing inside diameter, a 400 mm chuck, 3,000 rpm, 30-38 kW and 800-1,014 Nm. The 80 mm bar spindle, footnoted as a spindle option, has a 91 mm bore, a 315 mm chuck, 3,200 rpm, 15-22 kW and 398-700 Nm.

04 Can the B1250 use a steady-rest?

Yes, as an option that Biglia offers on the B1250 only. The brochure describes an automatic, self-centring steady-rest suitable for shafts up to 240 mm in diameter, with programmable positioning and opening and closing of the arms. It is available as a single or double unit.
