Overview
The Takamaz XW-130M is the milling-capable variant of Takamaz's twin-spindle XW-130, adding live tooling at 4,000 RPM to both 10-station turrets for complete turn-mill machining of both ends of a workpiece in a single automated cycle. This makes the XW-130M one of the most capable machines in the Takamaz lineup, combining twin-spindle both-end machining with cross-drilling, tapping, and milling on both sides of the part.
Both spindles deliver 11/7.5 kW at 4,000 RPM through dual 8-inch collet chucks, providing balanced power for turning and milling operations on both sides. Each spindle has its own 10-station turret with 10 live tool positions on one side, enabling power-driven operations at 4,000 RPM with capacity for tools up to 16 mm diameter and tapping M4-M10. The 170 mm X-travel and 220 mm Z-travel per turret provide adequate envelope for most small to medium parts.
Rapid traverse rates of 24 m/min on both X and Z across both turrets keep non-cutting time to a minimum even with live tooling operations. The Fanuc 0i-TF control manages multi-channel programming for synchronized or independent operation of both spindle-turret pairs, including live tool engagement sequencing.
The XW-130M footprint of 1,990 x 2,330 mm (2,250 x 2,330 mm with loader) is compact for a twin-spindle twin-turret machine with live tooling. The integrated gantry loader handles the complete load-machine-transfer-machine-unload sequence automatically. For shops producing medium to high volumes of parts that require both-end turning plus cross-drilling or milling, the XW-130M eliminates two or three separate machines from the manufacturing process.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Twin-spindle twin-turret with live tooling delivers complete turn-mill machining of both ends in one cycle
- 10-station turrets with 10 live tool positions provide genuine milling capability on both sides of the part
- 24 m/min rapid traverse on all axes keeps cycle times competitive even with complex live tooling operations
- Integrated gantry loader automates the full load-machine-transfer-machine-unload sequence
- Eliminates two to three separate machines from the manufacturing process for complex both-end parts
- 4,000 RPM live tools handle cross-drilling, tapping, and flat milling at production rates
Limitations
- Highest cost in the Takamaz 8-inch class requires significant production volume for ROI justification
- Multi-channel programming with live tooling on both turrets demands advanced CAM or programming expertise
- 11/7.5 kW spindles provide less power per side than the standard XW-130 15 kW spindles
- Limited Takamaz dealer and service network outside Japan compared to Mazak or DMG Mori

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New Takamaz XW-130M machines typically price between $250,000 and $360,000 depending on tooling configuration and loader options. The live tooling adds $30,000-$50,000 over the standard XW-130 but eliminates secondary milling operations on both ends of the part.
02
The XW-130M adds live tooling at 4,000 RPM to both turrets, upgrades to 10-station turrets from 12-station, and trades some spindle power (11/7.5 kW vs 15 kW) for the milling capability. The XW-130M is the right choice when parts need cross-drilling or milling on both ends.
03
The machine can perform live tooling operations on one turret while the other turret turns, or run turning operations on both turrets simultaneously. Full simultaneous live tooling on both sides depends on programming and collision clearance between the turrets.
04
Typical cycle times range from 25-60 seconds for complete both-end machining including turning and milling operations. The simultaneous cutting capability on both turrets significantly reduces total cycle time compared to sequential machining across multiple machines.
